I
n March, we were able to welcome some
great new businesses to the Chandler
Chamber! I would like to personally
congratulate Walmart-Chandler location,
GRAZ Kitchen Fresh, St. Vincent de Paul Thrift
Store, Retirement Insurance Specialists, Amerikiss,
Sir Veza’s Taco Garage and Chandler Christian
Community Center on their ribbon cutting
celebrations. Thank you to our current members for
your continued support for the Chamber and to our
new members, for recognizing the benefits of joining
our fantastic community!
March was an exciting month for the Chandler
Chamber. Our 27th Annual Chandler Chamber
Ostrich Festival began with the Mayor’s 5k Fun Run
and Ostrich Festival Parade. The Mayor’s Fun Run
partnered with the Chandler Unified School District
this year resulting in a record number of runners with
over 1,300 participants. It was a fantastic opportunity
for our Chandler community to come together for a
day of fun and exercise!
The Chandler Chamber’s Ostrich Festival Parade
began shortly after the close of the race. With
amazing floats, talented marching bands, and dance
troupes, this year’s parade was a sight to be seen!
The best of the best received plaques of recognition for
their efforts in making this year’s parade the best yet!
On March 13th, the 27th Annual Ostrich Festival
officially began! We had some amazing acts and
musical performances join us this year at the festival.
Chachi “The Rocketman” Valencia performed his
amazing feat, being shot from a cannon at over
55 miles per hour, The All American Duck Race,
The Birdman with his wide array of exotic birds,
Grand Funk Railroad, Colt Ford, Laura Marano
“Ally” from Disney’s popular TV show “Austin and
Ally” and CO-OP; Alice Cooper’s son’s band with
special appearance by Alice Cooper himself! I
sincerely hope you and your family were able to
attend this year’s Ostrich Festival, as all of our
acts, attractions and musicians came together to
create a truly unique and fun-filled experience.
The Chamber’s monthly Lunch Club was held
at Floridino’s Pizza & Pasta in March. Members
were able to network and promote their business
while enjoying a great lunch in a fun and relaxed
atmosphere. Join us this month, April 20th for our
next Lunch Club event at Stone & Vine.
This month’s Women in Business will be held
April 21st at SoHo63 in Downtown Chandler.
Our keynote speaker, Deborah Gardner, will be
speaking on “Persuasive Tips to Help Enhance
Your Business.” Grasp today’s new business
mindset and profitably execute the most effective
ideas, techniques & strategies that work for any
leader, in any profession. To register for this event,
please visit our website chandlerchamber.com
The Chandler Chamber of Commerce is also
excited to celebrate its 103rd birthday April 27th!
Since its inception in 1912, the Chandler Chamber
has grown to be a driving force in the prosperity of
businesses throughout Chandler. The future of our
Chandler community is bright, and we are proud to
be a part of it!

ere’s a good tip for Chandler business owners who might need a
little extra help this summer. Arizona State University has reached
out to us to help promote a summer internship platform through its
Brazil Scientific Mobility Program (BSMP).
ASU has more than 300 undergraduate students studying on full
scholarships and paid for by the Brazilian government. Most of these
students are focused on STEM (science, technology, engineering and
math). Last year, Serious Integrated, a company located at the
Innovations Incubator, took part in the program and intends to do so
again this year.
Click to follow
Mayor Tibshraeny on
Twitter (@jaytibshraeny).
Most of the BSMP students are studying to become engineers, but many
are also
majoring in areas like biology, nursing, architecture, and computer
science. I’m told these young people are ambitious, have unique
backgrounds and skill sets, and have passed their English proficiency
test. The summer 2015 internships can be either paid or unpaid since
the students receive a stipend. There is no fee or contract required of
the host companies. All administration, including work authorization, is
handled by the Institute of International Education, which has secured
their J-1 visas. For more information, contact Eileen Brill Wagner at
[email protected] or 602-617-0001.
Finally, I had the opportunity to sit down with about two dozen local
managers and CEO’s recently to discuss the state of the business
community. I heard some very encouraging things during our
conversation. Many companies are in growth mode, hiring new
employees. Healthways, Toyota Financial, Intel, Garmin, Air Products,
Dignity Health and Kaiser Aluminum plan to, or have created hundreds
of jobs in just the past several months. Others, like Bashas’ and Isola
Laminates are expanding and remodeling
facilities.
These are great stories for the continued financial strength of the City,
and our business community. I want to thank all of the people at the
table for their continued commitment to our city and for taking the time
to gather and discuss how we can make our business community even
stronger in the years ahead.

ASU grads above US averages in well-being and
employee engagement
According to the survey’s results, ASU alumni are significantly more
likely to be employed, engaged in their jobs and doing work that
interests them than graduates of other universities. ASU Alumni
are thriving outside the workplace as well; they are significantly
more likely than their peers to be thriving in all elements of wellbeing. Research by the L. William Seidman Institute shows that

Benefits for Members
Chamber Helps with Rising Costs of Generic Drug Prices
Today, more than a third of available generics cost consumers more than $100 per prescription. With this in mind, Chandler
Chamber can help by educating their members about the Chandler Chamber Rx Card, which is a free prescription
assistance program. The Chandler Chamber Rx Card can be used for savings of up to 75% on prescription medications
at more than 56,000 pharmacies nationwide. The card discounts both brand and generic prescription medications for
those individuals without prescription coverage. Additionally, those who have prescription drug coverage may still qualify
and receive discounts on medications not covered by their insurance plan. There’s no application to complete, no
membership restrictions, no income requirement, and no age limitations. Members can CLICK HERE to print a free
prescription discount card. There, they can also search for participating pharmacies and compare medication pricing.
