If it rains, we will bring the fun indoors. From the Presidents Spring has sprung !!.. Thank God we can put the winter coats, gloves and scarves away and enjoy the warmer weather. A walk on the dock with a bucket of beer to watch the sun set over the Ashley River is a great way to welcome in the spring season. The last few months have been very busy at the club. I would like to thank all our members who volunteered their time to help with Friday night suppers, March of Dimes Bowling tournament and the Valentines dance. The next 2 months will be just as exciting, so please keep an eye on the calendar. Remember, it’s your club, it’s your program, it’s how you support the organization that makes the CRC a success. The membership is growing. Members are bringing friends to enjoy what the club has to offer. Visitors are liking what they see and want to become a part of the safe, secure and friendly environment. I hope you understand that as the CRC membership grows the CRC will change to keep in step with the times. Organizations that stay frozen in time, die a slow death. Change is not easy but essential for survival. I hope that everyone has a wonderful Easter and the Easter Bunny brings you a basket full of chocolate eggs. Thanks for allowing me to be your President, Skipper Greetings to all and welcome to Spring FINALLY. I wish we could have Spring/Fall weather all year long—however that is one of those wishes that never go anywhere but in my head. We are getting ready for the Ladies Night Out this weekend and by the time this article is published it will be over and done with. I have no doubt about its success because of all the hard work of many ladies and the donations made by so many members. I have to add there were quite a few men who also help in this endeavor as well! Thank you to all who were apart of this event and a special thank you to Pat Barrineau—without her it probably would not have been an event. She worked tirelessly –well maybe not tirelessly but she really gave it her all but she was pretty tired many days and nights. Our next effort is our scholarship awards in June. I need to remind everyone that all applications must be in by the close of the CRCLA meeting on May 4th, 2015. Please read your applications carefully making sure you meet ALL the eligibility requirements for the CRC Ladies Auxiliary Scholarships. These scholarships are awarded to the most worthy and the requirements and grading scales are stringent. Scholarships are not awarded because a relative has been a member forever or they are rich or poor. We take into consideration the following: community/volunteer service (aka giving back), leadership awards & honors and participation in extracurricular activities (boy scouts, church, sports, clubs, etc.), the content of their letter from a volunteer supervisor, coach, teacher, or school official (not a family member), the content of the applicants letter, GPA of 2.5 or higher, what efforts has the applicant made to help with educational expenses, any special circumstances you wish to have considered or the need for a scholarship, and special educational needs or devices. I have been on this committee for the last 3 to 4 years and I have not seen an application that does not deserve so it is really hard to narrow them down to the number of scholarships we have to award. We had 6 scholarships to award last year—we had 8 applicants but only 6 of the 8 had qualified to apply so luckily we did not have to make a decision-we were able to award all applicants with a scholarship. This year we have 7 we are able to award and I have a feeling that the competition is going to strong with more than 7 applicants. I wish you all luck in the application process and in your futures! This is one of the best things the CRCLA does in my opinion. It is April and the holiday this month doesn’t need explanation. This is one holiday that is personal to each individual— just remember the sacrifice made to make us all worthy of the possibility of a forever life and those who die even now to acknowledge that sacrifice and serve a risen Savior. Happy Spring, Deb ARE YOU COMPUTER SAAVY? Chaplain’s Report Lorian Maier has been ill but is home now. We need your help! We are looking for a volunteer or a low-cost solution to upgrade our website.
