FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Stage Upgrade
We have replaced the decking on the stage area at the
front of the school. Tracy Armstrong and Rod Carr
(some of our fantastic parents) volunteered their time
and expertise to come in and replace the old deck with
merbau decking boards due to the poor condition of
the existing boards. Seven and half hours later the job
was completed and I think it looks fantastic. My
maintenance crew will include anti skate devices along
the front of the stage to deter weekend skateboarders.
The tannins will leak out of the boards over the next six
weeks and after this we can apply a covering to protect
the wood. A massive thank you is extended to both of
these parents and to the Armstrong boys who helped
with some of the work.

ENROLMENTS 2016
Cross Country
The Year 3-6 cross country will be held next week on
Thursday starting at 12 pm at Kingston Heath Reserve
opposite the DFO buildings. The children will be
bussed there and back to school. The children have
been training hard and will run a course around the
reserve similar to last year. We will need parent
volunteers to man checkpoints along the course and
monitor the finish line. They will be required to dress in
house colours.
Life Education Van
You will notice a big van near the
Foundation area over the next two weeks.
The Life Education van is visiting the school for the
next couple of weeks. The children will be participating
in a variety of lessons based on health. They get to
meet Harold the Giraffe during those lessons and he
has some very important messages for the children to
take away with them.
Please let us know if you have a child who will be
starting school at Cheltenham East Primary School
in our Foundation year for 2016 (if you haven’t yet
had a chance to enrol).
If you have neighbours or friends who have a child
starting school next year, they may contact the
office for a tour, and may enrol their child.
There is a copy of the “Welcoming 2016
Foundation students to our Transition Program” in
this newsletter. The first activity is “It’s Story
nd
Time” on Friday 22 May, 2015 from 2.30-3.30 pm

NAPLAN TESTING
The Year 3 and 5 students will be sitting NAPLAN tests
next week starting on Tuesday and ending on
Thursday. They will complete Spelling and Grammar,
Writing, Reading and Numeracy tests during the week.
Their classroom teachers will be supervising the
testing procedures for the children. The tests give
important data for teachers to use in goal setting and
future planning as well as providing a snapshot of the
children’s progress.
This term we are working on
RESPECT
and next week we are looking at
Voice
Year 2 Excursion
The Year 2’s will be off to the aquarium next Tuesday
to have a look at creatures and plants that live in the
sea. They will receive a guided tour and explore the
various exhibits the aquarium has and of course they
get to see the sharks and the giant rays which are a
highlight of the aquarium. Have a great time!
Thought For The Week
Along with body language, learning how we
should use our voice is very important.
Often it is not the words we say, but how
we say them, that really let’s people know
how we feel. We can use the tone and
volume of our voice to convey lots of
messages.
Just think how many different ways you
can say the word “no”.
Think about the way you use your voice to
show people that you are friendly. Even
when you have to say something that is
difficult or you have to disagree with
someone, you can use your voice in a way
that is fair and friendly, not mean or
unfriendly.
WAYNE BACH
Principal
Reminder –
If you do not want your child’s
name published in the daily press for the Premier’s
Reading Challenge, please notify the office by May 16.
Perhaps in your class next week you can
practise using your voice in many different
ways and see what messages it sends.
