Emergency Placement and Outreach Program (EPOP) Worker: Part Time (16 hours per week) (Temporary Contract: June 22, 2015 – March 31, 2016) The EPOP Outreach Worker provides support to homeless families who require an emergency hotel shelter placement and follow-up during their hotel stay. The Outreach Worker will work in collaboration with staff from Alberta Works and the Income Support Contact Centre (ISCC) to process applications and confirm eligibility for emergency hotel shelter placement. In the case where families are deemed ineligible, the Outreach Worker will work with the family and with available community resources to identify a safe shelter alternative. The Outreach Worker will follow families during their hotel shelter stays and ensure that their basic needs are met, assist families with following through on housing search and other goals, and provide referrals to community services and resources as needed. HOURS: 3:30 pm to 7:30 pm, Tuesday to Friday QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Degree in human services (preferred), or diploma with additional related experience 2. Comprehensive knowledge of family-related community resources and services 3. Valid Standard First Aid Certificate with CPR level B 4. Valid driver’s license and use of own vehicle 5. Current Child Intervention and Criminal Record Checks with satisfactory results EXPERIENCE: 1. Minimum 3 years of experience working with families who have complex needs, preferably within the homeless sector 2. Experience working with complex families in a community setting 3. Brief solution-focused intervention skills 4. Case Management experience is an asset, preferably within the homeless sector 5. Experience using HMIS or a similar client data base is an asset 6. Proficient computer skills 7. Excellent interpersonal, verbal & written communication skills RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Receive community referrals for families when shelter space or other housing options are not possible / available, and assist families with the request process, in conjunction with 1 Alberta Works / ISCC staff, for emergency hotel shelter placement. Pursue alternative arrangements with families unable to access Alberta Works emergency hotel placement. 2. Ensure supportive, efficient and safe transition into temporary hotel accommodation and provision of food and immediate basic needs for families during their hotel stay. 3. Assist the families to implement their immediate plan of action to reduce risk factors and help address their priority objectives. Coordinate with Alberta Works designated staff to help ensure that the goals set by them for families are also addressed. 4. Monitor the wellbeing of the families during their hotel stays and provide brief solutionfocused outreach support. 5. Work collaboratively with the programs of the Children’s Cottage, Alberta Works, Inn From The Cold, hotels / motels and other key community service providers as indicated by each family’s unique situation and needs. 6. Refer families as needed and follow up on referrals to ensure that families are accessing support.
