Emergency Placement and Outreach Program Child Care Worker: Temporary Part Time (20 hours per week) Competition #EP-001-2015 (Temporary Contract – 16 weeks: June 15, 2015 – Oct. 2, 2015) The Emergency Placement & Outreach Program (EPOP) is an emergency support service offered out of Brenda’s House, our shelter for homeless families. The (EPOP) Child Care Worker is responsible for communicating an empathic, non-judgmental view toward families with multiple needs, and for providing quality care for children on location temporarily at Brenda’s House while their families are being processed for emergency hotel placements. The EPOP Child Care Worker is responsible for helping to provide daily child care and supervision for children and youth within these families as part of the Brenda’s House team, to interact with and offer daily programming for the children and youth, and to provide support around parenting to their parents as needed while they are temporarily in the facility. The EPOP Child Care Worker also helps to ensure that a plan is in place to ensure that children’s needs are met during emergency hotel stays in collaboration with the EPOP Outreach Worker. HOURS: 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Monday to Friday QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Minimum 2 years of experience working with children under 5 who have complex needs; additional experience working with children and youth (age 6 to 17) is an asset 2. Diploma in the area of early childhood education and care 3. Current Standard First Aid Certificate with child & infant CPR (level B) 4. Strong understanding of children’s developmental stages and needs; experience with early childhood developmental screening is an asset 5. Excellent written and oral communication skills 6. Experience working in a residential setting is an asset 7. Experience working with families 8. Experience working with volunteers 9. Child Intervention and Criminal Record Checks with satisfactory results RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Directly work with children and families a. Provide quality care and daily programming for children and youth in a residential family center. b. Provide screening and referral information regarding children’s developmental progress. 1 c. Provide mentorship and learning opportunities to parents. d. Maintain a fun, safe, welcoming and educational childcare space. e. Participate in ongoing communication with other staff and agency partners, pertaining to direct work with children and their parents. f. Discuss and facilitate school registration and attendance for school-aged children in collaboration with the EPOP Outreach Worker during hotel stays. 2. Child Care Centre Program support a. Assist to implement scheduled programming appropriate to multiple ages/needs. b. Help ensure that child care practice standards, policies and procedures are followed. c. Assist in providing support to child care volunteers. d. Collaborate with the staff team around programming at Brenda’s House. e. Complete written documentation and track client/program statistics as required by the Program Manager. f. Help with the maintenance and upkeep of child care supplies and spaces in the house.
