Healthy Families Home Visitor– 1 Full Time Temporary Position (1.0 FTE) April 2015 – April 2016 Internal/External Posting Competition #HF-2015 The Children's Cottage Society of Calgary provides crisis nursery, respite, and family support programs for vulnerable children. To achieve our vision of “Safe Children in Healthy Families” we are looking for an experienced and professional individual to work with the Society’s Healthy Families Home Visitation program. Responsibilities: Serve families in Calgary area. Establish and maintain a supportive and mentoring relationship with complex families by providing regular services through home visits. Use skills to address identified family concerns and implements effective interventions with families, utilizing advanced strength-based, solution focused strategies. Act as a liaison between families and other community agencies and promote family self-reliance. Establish and implement a family support plan with goals, strategies and activities developed with parents. Utilize developmental assessment tools (ASQ / ASQ-SE) for children and make recommendations to parents. Assist parents with referrals to community services and resources as required. Qualifications: Degree in Human Services field, with a minimum of three years of experience working with children and their families Demonstrated proficiency as a Home Visitor, and experience in supporting parents who are raising infants/young children. Understanding of how to support families with complex issues, and strong knowledge base re: parent-child attachment, early childhood development, the stresses of parenting, substance abuse, domestic violence, and the dynamics of child abuse and neglect. Experience with early childhood developmental screening, parent mentoring, and crisis intervention; ability to recognize the need for professional intervention. Strong knowledge base re: community resources for children and families, and understanding of CFS child protection and family enhancement services. Ability to work independently in the community providing home-based service. Excellent verbal and written communication skills; a second language is an asset. Proficient in the use of computers including ability to document using a data base. Must have valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle and safe driving record. Willing to work flexible hours to meet families’ needs.
