Strategic Discussion
Prioritize issues to consider for 2015-2016.
Each assumes a process in which Scott writes a proposal, refines it with the pastoral team, then submits it to
the AC and Session for consideration and approval.
Desired outcome of this AC meeting: Get a sense of AC’s ordering of priority for these three issues.
a) Women in CPC leadership. Consider a theologically / biblically based proposal for women participating
more fully than at the present in biblical instruction, diaconal service (non-ordained per BCO), and in an
advisory capacity to the elders.
b) Lord’s Supper. Consider a theologically / biblically based proposal for the inclusion of wine as an option
for the Lord’s Supper (in addition to grape juice). Also to consider: revisit the format for how the Lord’s
Supper is observed at CPC – advocating for a more active, incarnational, passing the peace during the love
feast approach. Lastly, consider the merits of serving the Supper weekly instead of monthly.
c) Participation in the Church Calendar. Scott to write a proposal for consideration of more explicit,
intentional participation in the ecumenical church calendar throughout the year – observing seasons such as
Lent, Advent, Easter, and the like—in unison with the global church.
d) CPC’s potential to be a “leader church” in Nashville on the practice and cultivation of diversity in all its
forms (ethnic but also generational, political, economic, etc.), both within congregations and between
churches in the greater Nashville area.
e) SWOT analysis on each ministry area / department re: how we have progressed in taking CPC101 and
making it real, and becoming a church with truly missional culture.
