My calendar says that it is Spring but
the weatherman seems to be
disagreeing with me. Right now we
have another forecast of rain and possiblity of freezing
rain – it’s my fault! I took the snow tires off my car, I’m
sorry. But we’ve decided to do a couple of things to help
encourage Spring.
Frolic always gets us in the mood for Spring. Have you
made your plans for the Frolic? It is a great show and
we look forward to seeing some of the other vendors we
only see at these shows. We have a couple of booths
that we always plan on stopping by to treat ourselves.
Do you have your favourites? What is on your wish list
for this show?
We’ve been stocking up on some lovely yarns to bring, of
course we will have the big black hutch of Koigu
fingering but did you know they have lace weight? You
will have to stop by and see the samples knit in it. Tabi
of Sericin Silkworks has just dropped off a new order of
hand-dyed Cashmere as well as some Mink – oh my! Or
how about some Skein Top Draw from Australia, String
Theory Caper from Maine or Blue Moon Socks That
Rock or Worthy? And we haven’t forgotten about the
accessories – blocking boards in 2 sizes and a large
selection of those beautiful hand made Jennyanydots
stitch markers.
We’ve also started planning our World Wide Knit in
Public Day event (WWKIP) for Saturday, June 7 th. This
year we will again be doing a fundraiser for Canadian
Breast Cancer Support Fund. Indigodragonfly and Kate
Atherley will be joining us again this year, and you know
if they are involved and with the team I work with that
there will be some shennanigans going on! We will be
sending out a special newsletter with some details but in
the meantime mark June 7th on your calendar and plan
on spending the whole day.
And just to give Spring the idea that we are ready – we
have put all yarns with Cotton in them 20% off until
April 12th. This is a really good deal as some of these
yarns are brand new! I just put 28 colours of Ultra Pima
Fine up on the wall today. But that also means we need
to clear some space – so we have a couple of other
cottons that are on clearance. You don’t even have to
wait for the closet, these specials are on now!
One final special to let you know about – Spud & Chloe
Fine is a beautiful fingering weight wool & silk 20 % off!

Introducing the Crochet Block of the
Month Club with Beth
If you’ve been reading about the Square Dancing course at the shop
you may have been wondering, “Why do knitters get to have all the
fun?” Join Beth for a monthly class exploring different crochet
techniques while making blocks for a sampler afghan. By making a
just one block a month, at the end of the year you’ll have enough
squares to assemble a crib-sized blanket. You might even be
inspired to crochet more blocks and make a larger afghan all your
own.
Each month we'll learn a new stitch technique, such as granny
squares, popcorn stitches, and simple cables. We will practice pattern
and chart reading, too, and discuss edging and joining methods. The
meeting format will be similar to the Square Dancing Program: just
sign up for the Block of the Month Club, and then choose to register
for some or all of the monthly meetings for only $10 a class. To be a
club member, you must already know the basics of crochet (single,
half-double, double, and triple crochet).
Our first club meeting will be in September. Look in the coming
months for more information about the Block of the Month Club!
Thurs. April 24
6:30 – 8:30 $20 plus materials
Absolute beginners will be introduced to the ABCs of hook handling
and to the single crochet stitch while working toward completing their
first project, Beth's "Mother's Little Helper" coaster.

All the Shades of Truth by Laura Aylor is a rectangular shawl knit
modularly in four directions, producing a pattern of interconnected
stripes. Worked in five colours, this beautiful piece pages homage to
the work of Frank Lloyd Wright while providing a blank canvas for you
to "paint" with your selected colours. This class will be offered as
three one hour sessions. The first night we'll explore colour
possibilities so you can decide on colour placement and you'll cast on
for the beginning. The second session covers picking up to work out
from the centre stripe. The final session we'll review edging options
and finishing.

Thurs. April 17th & May 15th 6:30 – 8:30 $40 plus pattern
A bunch of folds went ga-ga over the sample of this shawl that’s in the
shop, we we’ve added a class so you can make your own. Using
Skein Top Draw yarn from Australia, this shawl is a great way to
tackle some simple short-rows and a little bit of easy lace. If you can
knit and purl independently and have knit from a pattern before, this is
within your ability.

stretchy sock cuff.

week is done the door is closed until the 3 rd week of
the following month. This is where end of lines or
dye lots go or it is a current yarn that we are moving
out to make room for new yarns in the shop. Just a
reminder – there are no holds for yarns in the
Closet, all sales are final and once the Closet is
closed – it stays closed for the month.

About Custom Fit
Custom Fit (CF) is a knitwear solution developed by
a woman called Amy Herzog who is both a software
developer AND a knitwear designer that helps us
create sweater patterns that are custom fit to you.
Your yarn. Your tension. Your style elements. Only
one size in the instructions!
In order to create the pattern, CF needs three kinds
of input: very specific body measurements we take
in-house with our CF-trained staff, information we
take from a swatch you knit and the yarn's ball
band, and the sort of sweater and fit that you want
(cardigan or pullover, neck style and depth, sleeve
length, etc).
Since the first step is taking measurements here at
Shall We Knit?, we have two ways to get started
with CF:
