Chabot’s 2014 Spring Auction Each year, Chabot looks forward to gathering together for a common cause – to demonstrate how important our children and their education are to us! This year’s “Spring Fling” Auction has a fundraising goal of $150,000, to ensure that our dynamic enrichment programs — music, science, art, media, library, gardening, P.E. and Spanish — continue to thrive. The Auction happens in two phases – the Online Auction, and the Gala event. The Online Auction launches on Wednesday, March 26, and ends on Thursday, April 3. Our procurement team has secured items from over 500 generous donors. New this year, bidders will have access to every party. We have something for every budget and interest! The Gala will be held on Saturday, April 5, at the Greek Ascension Community Center. This year’s venue will be decorated with beautiful art and craft created by our children – come be inspired by their creativity. The Gala evening begins with a complimentary glass of champagne while you peruse the Silent Auction tables. Try one of our signature cocktails at the no-host bar while you mix and mingle. After the last silent auction table closes, take your seat to enjoy a delicious three-course meal. Chris Schreiber, former PTA President, will serve as our Master of Ceremonies and assist professional auctioneer Jane Alexiandis with this year’s Live Auction. We will close out the night by announcing the raffle winners of the Wine Cellar, Beer Cave, and PUBLIC Bike, and presenting a photo montage of Chabot students. Please use this catalog as your guide to the 2014 Chabot Auction experience. We’ve listed all of our Live and Silent Auction offerings and helpful instructions which start on page 6. Design Space Thinking & Making is a new Claremont Middle School elective focused on encouraging creative, nonconforming, unconventional approaches to design. While the classroom has already been transformed from a disheveled art room to a colorful design workspace, there is more to do! To take this class to the next level, it needs equipment to create a fully functional maker space. Top priority items include adjustable -height work tables and a selection of tools to make tinkering— and problem solving—possible! Please support this endeavor with your fund-a-need donation. Bidding for Parties All hosts have established a maximum number of “seats” for their parties, and they are available on either a fixed price or biddable basis. All prices listed are per person and not per couple. Fixed price seats are filled on a first come first serve basis, where your spot is guaranteed at a certain price. Please note that all of the fixed price parties will be available in the online auction, so it is possible for all seats to be filled prior to the gala. We recommend you bid early! Biddable seats are available on a progressive bidding basis. The bidding starts at the lowest level, say $30/person. Once the $30 spots are full, following bidders will take their spots at the next level, say $35/person. Therefore, some people may pay different amounts to attend the same event. Check the bidding often to make sure no one has outbid you! PHOTO BOOTH A photo booth, compliments of Maxi Lilley and Red Oak Realty, will be available during the Silent Auction for guests to enjoy. Step in the booth, have your photo taken, and take home a free memento of this special evening! The Way to Play Live Auction The auctioneer will open bidding at the minimum bid amount. To bid on an item, hold your card with your bidder number up until the auctioneer acknowledges your bid. The highest bidder acknowledged by the auctioneer shall be the winner of the item. A bid acknowledged by the auctioneer is a legal contract to purchase the item. If a group is bidding on one item, please designate one person to place your combined bid. Payment All items must be paid for by the end of the evening. We gladly accept personal checks made payable to “Chabot PTA,” credit cards and cash. To speed check-out, please register your credit card during check-in. Silent Auction The silent auction begins at 5:30 pm. At the auction, a bid sheet is displayed near each item.
