About Angelman Syndrome & FAST
The Foundation for Angelman Syndrome Therapeutics is an all-volunteer, 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated
to funding research that will lead to treatments and a cure for the symptoms of Angelman Syndrome
(AS), including developmental delays, lack of speech, difficulty walking and debilitating seizures. AS has
been cured in a mouse model and stands to be the gateway cure for other neurological disorders such as
Alzheimer’s Disease, Autism, Fragile X and RETT Syndrome. Since 2011, FAST has funded over $2.3
million dollars in scientific research including the first ever human clinical trial of a treatment for AS. In
2013, FAST launched the most aggressive research initiative to date into a rare disorder, the FAST Integrative Research Initiative (FIRE), a coordinated consortium of 24 leading researchers from 4 universities
working together to identify, characterize and implement new therapeutics for the treatment and ultimate
cure of AS. With a focus on translational research and emerging biotechnologies, we believe a cure for
AS is attainable within 5 years.
