Purls of Wisdom Newsletter of the Midsouth Knitting Guild 2014 April Program Finishing Lessons Kelly Reilly, Level 1 Master Knitter Our program for the April 28th meeting will be a discussion and demonstration of various finishing techniques. Including examples and why or where certain methods are preferred. See the Overachievers section of the newsletter for the techniques we will be practicing. Homework: 1. Bring swatches of garter, stockinette and ribbing. Two samples of 4” squares of each (you will be joining them together). Or if you prefer, you can knit a larger swatch similar to the lower cuff section of a sleeve (you will be joining the two edges) By the way, it is not recommended to slipstitch a seam edge. Worsted weight yarn is the easiest to work. 2. Keep one pair of swatches on the needles, and a empty third needle 3. A few yards of contrast yarn to create the seams. 4. She’s been in the knitting industry for quite a while. She is currently the art director for Cooperative Press. I like her format for each podcast loosely having a theme. And I like the honest conversation she’s having with us (which is why I included this cute picture of her). Dark Matter Knits Blog Dark Matter Knits Podcast Ravelry elizabethgm Tips & Tricks: A Stitch A Day I completely forgot to include this great ebook in the list of articles on the benefits of knitting, Cognitive Anchoring. Do you need to be doing something with your hands to keep your mind from wandering off? You are using Cognitive Anchoring. This blog/ebook is by Heather Ordover, the CraftLit® podcaster and Madame Defarge series editor. Social Media: Facebook Group Carol, our president, has taken over the responsibility of all our social media. Thank you Carol! Joanne These services are for people to find us as well as for us to develop a strong community. We have changed the facebook to the second use. It works best if yʼall post anything knitting and/or fiber related. As a member of the guild, we will add you to the facebook group. Any questions, please email Carol. 3 Are you goin’? I would like to do that at the April meeting. Please speak up. I want to know if itʼs worthwhile to continue in the newsletter. You can access the library through ravelry at http://www.ravelry.com/people/MKGlibrary/new_library Clara Parkʼs book: The Yarn Whisperer was donated to the library by Kathy Berkshire in March. All books that have been checked out, can be returned at the April meeting or renewed until the May meeting. Please email me if you want to renew.
