FMWR Celebrates “April in the D” with FoxSports Detroit at The Patriot Pub! By George Bournias, FMWR Warren, MI - US Army Garrison – Detroit Arsenal (DTA) – Family & Morale, Welfare & Recreation (FMWR) recently followed up its highly popular and energized visit to DTA by American League MVP & CY Young Award Winner Justin Verlander and The Detroit Tigers by coordinating a rare FoxSports-Detroit’s “April in The D” promotion at Selfridge ANG Base’s (SANGB) Patriot Pub. Each spring, FoxSports-Detroit celebrates their televised coverage of the over-lapping Basketball, Hockey and Baseball seasons with their “April in the D” promotion featuring the sports network’s popular fan ambassadors, Lauren Bacall, Allison Ochmanek and Megan Simmons -“The FoxSports Detroit Girls,” who are local college students working at FoxSports. Generally, the Regional Sports Network -“The FoxSports Detroit Girls” promotional appearances are limited to Sports & Concert Venues yet FMWR’s marketing division made a strong and dedicated effort to bring the “April in The D” promotional campaign with Lauren, Allison and Megan to The Patriot Pub for a meet & greet and prize giveaway. While landing a promotional visit is a feat in itself, FMWR was also able to coordinate the promotional appearance to coincide with a FoxSports Detroit Broadcast of a Detroit Red Wings Playoff Game. In addition to meeting the ladies from FoxSports Detroit, attendees were entered in a drawing for great prizes, including Detroit Lions, Detroit Pistons and Red Wings merchandise and game tickets. Many attendees were thrilled to walk away with a very hip and hard to come by, “April in the D/Red Wings” knit cap. Among those enjoying the event at SANGB’s Patriot Pub included Major General Kurt J. Stein, Commanding General TACOM Life Cycle Management Command, DTA Garrison Manager Alan Parks and Col. Jeanne Hooper, Chief of Staff, TACOM LCMC, The Director for FMWR, Ms. Denise Ellis Goyke, also attended and was thrilled with the event adding, “The Patriot Pub is one of those fun spots and it is fantastic to have a great crowd come out to meet the ‘FoxSports Detroit Girls,’ win prizes and cheer on the Red Wings while having a few laughs!” Just prior to their visit to the Patriot Pub, FoxSports Detroit’s Lauren , Allison and Megan made a brief stop at the Army Community Service’s Volunteers Appreciation Dinner (at SANGB’s Joint Dining Conference Center) to thank the very dedicated volunteers who were being honored for their service, and invite the attendees to The Patriot Pub. Continued “My team and I thoroughly enjoyed working with the FoxSports Detroit’s top notch Marketing Staffers Lauren Prober and Brigid Shivers, to make the event happen and everyone was thrilled to meet Allison, Lauren, and Megan” said Leonard Sullivan, Chief of Recreation. FMWR plans to continue to offer great, crowd-pleasing events and is hopeful that the “April in the D - FoxSports Detroit Girls” visit will become an annual event.
