It features flying students, dancing pirates and crocodiles. What more could you want? I am so excited to see the results of many hours of rehearsals and preparation by numerous cast and crew members. It promises to be a fun evening. Aside from this evening’s show at 6:30 pm, there will be a second performance tomorrow, Saturday, April 18, also at 6:30 pm. I hope you can join us! On Monday this week, I was extremely proud to be a part of the grand opening of our Grades 11 & 12 Art Exhibit in the new wing of the Ayala Center. It was a fabulous event with music by our Chamber Ensemble and songs by our high school students, Daisy Koike, Chris Park, Marc Alcala, Patricia Rivera and Bianca Villamor. But most importantly, it gave us the opportunity to present the work of our IB Art students to the wider community in Cebu. It is a rewarding feeling to see members of the public admiring our students’ art and inspiration as they stroll through the mall. In additionr, we were also able to include some of the work of our Grade 10 Math students with their design projects. The exhibit will stay up, opposite the Fred Perry store, until May 15. Be sure to stop by and take a look when you are next in Ayala. Elementary School News Hello All, We have had another busy week here at school! All across the school, students, teachers, and staff have been readying the stage for the annual CIS productionPeter Pan. We hope you will join us tonight or tomorrow night at 6:30 pm in our Dragon’s Dome. A magical evening awaits us all! Tickets are available at the cashier or at the door for P250.00. All proceeds go back into our production budget for next year’s play. We hope to see you there! Today the Grade 4 students showed how they have learned from nature to improve life for humans. Animals and plants have evolved to have unique features in order to be able to survive in their environments and this has inspired a field of science called bio-mimicry. The students created an online quiz with questions generated from their own research projects for our assembly by: Mr. Neil Walton, MHS Principal Another notable event in the Middle/High School this week has been the second semester Grade 10 Micro-Business Fair. Our students set up their stalls in the canteen annex and have been busy selling their food products ranging from sausages, tacos, teok gochi, popcorn and toasted sandwiches to ice cream and frozen bananas. It has been a very popular place with students, parents and teachers who have all enjoyed sampling their tasty treats. The students will end the week not just making a profit but also learning what it takes to create a well-developed business plan and put it into action. A great experience! 9:15am-10:45am- Class parties Also this week, on Wednesday, we held a Parent Coffee Morning on the theme “Supporting Your Child Through The Summer”. This is just one example of how iPads are used for technology integration at CIS. Thanks Grade 4s for sharing your learning, and technological prowess, with us! Thank you to our parents who joined us for last Wednesday’s Coffee Morning on supporting your child’s growth through the summer months. The message of the morning was balance between the social, physical and academic needs of our students. Ideas were shared which can be found on the front page of our school website (www.cis.edu.ph). Parents also shared ideas about why they send their children to CIS. We are talking with parents, students, teachers and staff to hear from everyone why you have chosen to come to CIS. Your son or daughter will be taking the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) test during this period. The test covers fundamental skills in Reading, Language Arts and Mathematics. It will be given during the regular classes. Specific schedules will be announced in your child’s homeroom classes. The main purpose of the test is to provide the school with information that may be used to improve instruction and to help teachers make educational decisions about each student’s learning. The scores give teachers another indicator of each student’s year-to-year growth and help identify each student’s strongest and weakest areas of achievement. There is no need to study or review. However, we request that you encourage your child to do his/her best on the MAP test, as they should for all of their school activities. Please maintain a typical schedule and atmosphere at home during the week of testing, and be sure your child gets a good night’s sleep, a good breakfast and arrives at school on time. These things can help your child have a positive testing experience. Thank you for your continued support and cooperation.
