About City Gateway City Gateway was set up in 1999 by a group of city workers involved in local churches to bring hope to local communities across London, particularly those in and around East London, who hadn't benefited from the areas wider economic development. City Gateway helps the hardest to reach and most excluded NEET young people and women overcome obstacles such as poor language levels, limited aspirations and low skill levels by connecting with, engage and train them and provide them with the skills and opportunities to enter into work. Over 90% of City Gateway apprentices successfully complete their apprenticeships, 14.4% above the national average in 2010-2011. We run award winning youth work, youth training and employment projects, a women's project and children's and families work alongside a number of social enterprises which create work experience, training and employment opportunities for local people. Since starting City Gateway have been recognised as an example of national best practice in apprenticeships and youth engagement and have grown to work with thousands of individuals across London, especially Tower Hamlets and East London more widely. In 2012, City Gateway opened City Gateway 14-19 Provision, the first Alternative Provision Free School in London, providing an alternative education environment for learners who have disengaged from mainstream education. This will involve building a portfolio of evidence and assessments of work based competence that will be submitted against unit standards in order to claim for an NVQ. They will need to manage relationships between the employer, the apprentice and City Gateway. The Assessor role requires someone who will be able manage relationships with high-level professionals, giving a good impression of themselves and the organisation. They will also be the main point of contact for the apprentice and will play a pivotal part, in partnership with the host employer, in developing the apprentice in their role and coaching them towards further achievement. The assessor must have a passion to see young people succeed in the workplace and be committed to ensuring that young people achieve their full NVQ qualification. The Assessor also has a part to play in each Employer account continuation and expanding their business with City Gateway. Excellent customer service and employer responsiveness will increase the likelihood of repeat business in Apprenticeships. By developing an understanding of the needs of each business and its employees’ the assessor is also able to work with City Gateway’s Relationship Managers & Business Development Managers to pick up new Apprenticeship candidates, promote City Gateway’s product portfolio, penetrate new parts of the business, improve City Gateway’s training and generate new ideas for ways of working with City Gateway in the future. Main Responsibilities NVQ Assessment Manage a caseload of circa 40 starts and up to 35 apprentices in active employment, being fully responsible for assessing them against NVQ criteria in the workplace, and for their achievement in the qualification and retention in the job role during the course of the Apprenticeship Plan and perform assessments with each learner at their workplace once per month, giving feedback and development points. Bi-monthly supervision meetings with the host-employer and apprentice. Adherence to any other employer commitments that are a part of City Gateway’s service offer. Working in partnership with employers to address any crisis that might arise in the workplace with the aim of keeping the apprentice in work wherever possible whilst continuing the employers’ engagement with apprenticeships. Work with confidentiality, discretion and awareness to the apprentices’ conduct to ensure that the public image and reputation of the client is not compromised by the apprenticeship scheme. Aid preparation for EV visits from awarding body. Retention and Business Support Working with Apprenticeship stakeholders to retain learners on all aspects of the Apprenticeship course.
