A Day of Remembrance
November 11
Every year on November 11,
Canadians pause in a silent moment of
remembrance for the men and women who have
served, and continue to serve our country
during times of war, conflict and peace. We
honour those who fought for Canada in the
First World War (1914-1918), the Second World
War (1939-1945), and the Korean War (19501953), as well as those who have served since
then. More than 1,500,000 Canadians have
served our country in this way, and more than
100,000 have died. They gave their lives and
their futures so that we may live in peace.

The Casual Vacancy
By J.K. Rowling
When Barry Fairbrother dies unexpectedly
in his early forties, the little town of Pagford
is left in shock. Pagford is, seemingly, an
English idyll, with a cobbled market square
and an ancient abbey, but what lies behind
the pretty façade is a town at war. Rich at
war with the poor, teenagers at war with
their parents, wives at war with their
husbands, teachers at war with their
pupils…Pagford is not what it first seems.
And the empty seat left by Barry on the
town’s council soon becomes the catalyst
for the biggest war the town has yet seen.
Who will triumph in an election fraught with
passion, duplicity and unexpected
revelations? Blackly comic, thoughtprovoking and constantly surprising, The
Casual Vacancy is J.K. Rowling’s first novel
for adults.

The Alchemist
Paulo Coehlo
"My heart is afraid that it will have to suffer," the boy
told the alchemist one night as they looked up at the
moonless sky." Tell your heart that the fear of
suffering is worse than the suffering itself. And that no
heart has ever suffered when it goes in search of its
dreams."
The Alchemist is the magical story of Santiago, an
Andalusian shepherd boy who yearns to travel in
search of a worldly treasure as extravagant as any
ever found. From his home in Spain he journeys to the
markets of Tangiers and across the Egyptian desert
to a fateful encounter with the alchemist.
The story of the treasures Santiago finds along the
way teaches us, as only a few stories have done,
about the essential wisdom of listening to our hearts,
learning to read the omens strewn along life's path,
and, above all, following our dreams.

La vraie Julie
Bureau
personne humaine merveilleuse : franche,
l'événement, dits à une conférence de presse;

FALL OF GIANTS
By Ken Follett
Ken Follett’s magnificent new
historical epic begins, as five
interrelated families move
through the momentous
dramas of the First World War,
the Russian Revolution, and
the struggle for women’s
suffrage.
A thirteen-year-old Welsh boy
enters a man’s world in the
mining pits.…An American law
student rejected in love finds a
surprising new career in
Woodrow Wilson’s White
House.… A housekeeper for
the aristocratic Fitzherberts
takes a fateful step above her
station, while Lady Maud
Fitzherbert herself crosses
deep into forbidden territory
when she falls in love with a
German spy.…And two
orphaned Russian brothers
embark on radically different
paths when their plan to
emigrate to America falls afoul
of war, conscription, and
revolution.
From the dirt and danger of a
coal mine to the glittering
chandeliers of a palace, from
the corridors of power to the
bedrooms of the mighty, Fall of
Giants takes us into the
inextricably entangled fates of
five families—and into a
century that we thought we
knew, but that now will never
seem the same again.…
