Clayton &Dingley W A S TE f o r u m Balook Centre - 88 Rosebank Avenue, Westall Secondary College, Clayton South. 62 people attended a gathering on the evening of Tuesday 21st April 2015 to hold a conversation with individuals from the Clayton and Dingley community, community interest group TOAG, the waste management industry, Kingston Council and the EPA. These notes are a summary of ‘What we heard’ on the evening. Representatives from each of our collaborators (City of Kingston, TOAG, Transpacific, Environmix, Clayton Regional and EPA) plan to meet again in Autumn to look to support and respond to the comments and suggestions collected at the Forum. Future meeting dates will be advertised in local media and on the forum website. EPA should conduct survey of all residents to assess the tip odour on bad days. reaching and connecting with the community? How is the forum advertised? Stop the talk. EPA needs translation into different languages to connect to the community. Avoid calling because nothing changes. Why bother? Why cant you give incentives to the tip owners to stop the odour or close? gh This has a huon daily impact our lives. Calls are going down because we feel the EPA has no real power to stop it. Nothing has changed, there are so many flies and a constant smell. There is soil to not enoug preven t odohutop r. We need a different approach as it is not working. Local community feel they must contact EPA to get something done. 1 We really need the odour to stop. What r TOAGole does have? Loss of jobs. Potential contracts turned away by the smell. Feel stakeholders are not doing enough. How are the ns EPA Inspectio conducted? Who attended the forum on 21st April? The first forum of 2015 has attracted almost twice the number of local residents compared to recent forums. The forums are open for anyone to attend, thank you to everyone for their continued support at our forums. A number of new community and business people attended. Here is an overview of our main interest in attending. Truth, Clearer picture of difficulties for corrective action. Everyone was able to have a say. The info from the landfill conferences. New participants new issues. Each speaker. Everyone had their own turn to speak and the local business owners who were able to attend. Ability to be heard and understood. None. Good to have few group here but I don’t think we have a solution. The feedback and information provided. The facilitator was able to manage communication amongst everyone a combined group of peoples experience and communication. Thank you. TOAG Speakers with planned discussion points emotional speakers only proved as time wasting. The fact that we spoke about things. Feedback from communities. Updates from all parties. What could we improve for future sessions? Better reporting EPA. Council to work to give incentives. Publicise the information, on tv current affairs programmes. More advertising to the surround area near the tips. New solutions/options to reduce waste odour. E.g. Erwin’s idea. I would like to hear from three/ four members of public/ companies with planned discussion points. The rest of the format is great. Better advertising to be able to reach the whole community.
