Let’s move on to a real project. The first class covers ribbing, fixing mistakes, increasing and decreasing. Now you’re ready for some serious knitting. The Knit Mentor Mondays Noon – 2:00, Thursdays 6 pm – 8 pm $40 per calendar month Do you have UFO’s sitting around needing to be finished but you can’t remember where you left off? Or have you always been dreaming about knitting that sweater/shawl/pair of socks/etc. but are just a little nervous about the skills it involves? The Knit Mentor is the answer to this dilemma. Purchased one month at a time, you are welcome to come in as much as you like during the scheduled time slots. It will be a class-like setting that is focused on your specific knitting needs. Let us hook you up and get the introduction started! A single-session, 2 hour introduction to the basics of knitting: cast on, knit, purl, bind off. Includes your book, needles and yarn. This is a great technique to use up every inch of that hand-dyed sock yarn that you love!! Sock will feature a short row heel. (No class 8/21) Beginning Crochet Sundays, Aug 7, 14 and 28 2 pm – 4 pm 3 sessions, $35 In this class geared towards beginners with no crochet experience, we start with a slip knot and chain stitch and work our way up to granny squares. In the process we will make blocks that can be assembled into a scarf or doll-size afghan. (No class 8/21) Kool-Aid Dying Saturday, August 13 1 pm – 3 pm 1 session $20 Materials: 1 skein white or light colored yarn to dye, three or more packages of unsweetened Kool-Aid drink and a large Ziploc bag to take the yarn home. Have you wanted to try your hand at dying? Using Kool-Aid is a great way to get started! It’s completely kitchen safe, doesn’t use a lot of equipment and you can get really great results. Due to time constraints, please limit 1 hank to dye in class. Monday Night at the Movies EZ’s Knitting Workshop, Part I Monday, August 22, 7 pm – 8:30 pm 1 session, $10 We are reviewing Part I Beginnings of Elizabeth Zimmermann’s Knitting Workshop, based on her PBS series. In it, we’ll learn to wind a center-pull ball of yarn, and knit a hat in the round, among other tidbits and EZ’s witty humor. Cardigan in the Round Sundays, Sept 4, 18, Oct 2, 16 2:30 – 4:30 pm Embellished Knitting Sunday, October 23, 1-3pm 1 session, $20 We’ll take a simple project and add a little gusto! You’ll learn basic embroidery, pompons, Icord flowers, crochet edging, and more! 4 sessions, $40 Chart Reading A traditionally knit cardigan sweater project that includes turned hems, phony seams, gauntlet cuffs, grafting, and dolman sleeves with a slimmer sleeve option if desired. The pattern is the E. Zimmermann Green Sweater. We will meet for three sessions and work through your first sock. Includes pattern. A beautiful Fair Isle Christmas stocking, worthy of Santa’s best treats and the newest heirloom to your family’s holiday celebration. Covers Fair Isle knitting, a picot edge, and basic sock knitting skills such as turning a heel. Joy of Socks Knitters Math Sunday, Sept 25 1:00 – 3:00 pm 1 session, $20 Calculate gauge, sizing patterns to fit, and more proof that your high school math teacher was right. Fixing Mistakes Sunday, Oct 9 1:00 – 3:00 pm 1 sessions, $20 We've all been there. Don't rip it learn to fix it! We'll show you how to catch dropped, incomplete and twisted stitches, what to do if you forget a yarn over, and LOADS more with this comprehensive mistakes class. $20 You will need: 4 stockinette swatches in smooth, light colored yarn, all of the same gauge, 25 sts wide by 20 rows long. Leave two swatches on the needles. 1 set of needles and one extra needle in the same size (any length); one tapestry needle. Sunday, Oct 30 1:00 – 3:00 pm Lace charts, cable charts, color work charts, plus basic pattern chart reading skills will all be covered, giving you the confidence to dive into something new.
