The perennial John McNamee yet again led the way with gold medals in both the flags and the sprint. John also competed in the tube race and the board rescue - a gentleman of many talents ! In other individual events, congratulations to the following Clovelly athletes : Wendy Pepper - 2nd Flags : Jo Emery 3rd Sprint, 6th Flags, 5th Board : Catherine Mottee - 2nd Flags : Bernadette Chisholm—2nd 2K Beach Run. ( 144th ed.) 2010 NSW SURF CLUB OF THE YEAR Founded 1906 Awards Continue A tribute to our Education Team under the leadership of Jessica Wheatly is the continuing success of squads as the season close rapidly approaches. An IRB Crew squad under the guidance of Tania Rouse, Molly Cocks, Gordon Manuel and Gareth Turner were successful at Maroubra . There is a lot of work and preparation necessary with all types of IRB squads, hence the larger Trainer team. The squad of Eamon O’Sullivan, Zac Callaghan, Kevin Davis, Matthew Meynell & Marty LaNauze are pictured below. The ladies as a team were outstanding ! The Beach Relay team of Wendy Pepper, Jo Emery , Rennie Finch & Caroline Smith took Bronze. In the Board Relay Wendy, Jo & Caroline Smith put in a great team performance for Bronze. Wendy (board) and Jo (swim) combined for the Board Rescue. In a shock result they managed a wave superbly to the beach for the silver. Thankyou to our friends at Coogee for the loan of the competition rescue board used by the girls. (Craig Bennett & Andrew Bargenda then reclaimed the board and took silver in their Board Rescue for Coogee). In other team events, John McNamee & Geoff James competed strongly in their Board Rescue final despite their novel use of a softie recue board in the event.. Our Masters Boaties (above) Brian Freeman, Roy Robinson, Trevor Falson, Slade Headderman & Glen Holland, who are off to Gallipoli for the Anzac commemorative row, were strong in taking the silver in the 160 years boat. Sweep Glen Holland was then immediately off to hospital for an op that he had delayed till after this event. Best wishes to the boys for their Turkish adventure. Our final Bronze Squad sat their Part B at Clovelly on Sunday 29th March. Congratulations to Lead Trainer Madeleine Wheatley and to squad members Andrew Barkway-Jones, Jason Baskin, Tom Boyle, Michael Bradshaw, Simon Burke, Anthony Burns, Richard Dewar, Ben Mathwin, Anne Stringer, Marco Webb-Butler, Michael Weston & Liam Connolly.
