2015 Shanghai Summer School (Traditional Chinese Medicine Program) Admission Information (the First Notice) The Theme of the Program: A Miraculous Journey to Explore Traditional Chinese Medicine Program description: Chinese medicine has long been considered as the quintessence of Chinese culture. It has done a great contribution to the survival and health maintenance of Chinese people through thousands of years. Today it is still playing a distinctive role in health care system. It has been increasingly recognized for its natural, holistic concept and clinical effects. This program initiated in 2012 and has been held every summer ever since. Through lectures, cultural experience and field visits, this program will enable students from different countries, cultures and education backgrounds to get to know the city of Shanghai, Chinese culture and Chinese medicine. Course contents (theory): Fundamentals of Chinese Medicine Diagnostic technique in Chinese Medicine Meridians and Points Commonly used Chinese herbs Clinical Application of Acupuncture and Tuina Everyday Chinese Course contents (practice) Visit to hospitals affiliated to Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine Visit to Plantation of Chinese herbs Visit to Museum Experience of Traditional Chinese Holidays and Show of Acrobatics Experience the city of Shanghai Time: 2015-06-14—2015-07-10 (4 weeks) Total hours and arrangement: A total of 120 hours from Monday through Friday (Morning: 9:00-12:00; Afternoon: 13:30-16:30). She has chaired scientific research projects including TCM for Depression, History of TCM Psychology, Experimental Study on Kidney Qi and Disease-Syndrome of Jin Kui Yao Lüè. Chen De-xing, Doctorate supervisor, Professor at College of Chinese Materia Medica, Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, an expert in education, clinical application and research of herbal diet. He sits on the editorial boards of four journals—Chinese Traditional Patent Medicine, China Journal of Experimental Traditional Medical Formulae, Oriental Medicated Diet and Diet Therapy and Healthcare. Li Zheng-yu, M.D., professor at College of Acupuncture and Tuina, Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, has been dedicated in bilingual teaching of tuina. Prof. Li has edited the book Collections of Chinese Tuina and published 15 academic papers including Observation on the Effect of Massage on Experimental Gastric Ulcer in Rats. In addition, he has chaired numerous scientific research projects. Zhao Ling, M.D., associate professor at College of Acupuncture and Tuina, Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, one of the top 10 young scholars in the University. Her research orientation is Acupuncture Basis and Effect. She has published 16 academic papers (including 3 SCI papers) and co-edited texts of acupuncture and moxibustion.
