The courses are taught by excellent professors of ECUPL who are not only proficient in English but also experienced in international legal practice. Students will be able to take intensive courses on Chinese legal system, pay visits to local law institutions and experience Chinese culture in various ways. The program will provide students a great opportunity to study together with law students from other countries while experiencing both the historical and modern parts of China. At the end of the program, a certificate of participation is awarded to participants who successfully complete program requirements. China INTRODUCTION TO THE HOST Host: The East China University of Political Science and Law Founded in 1952 , the East China University of Political Science and Law (ECUPL) is a multidisciplinary university located in Shanghai, China. The university now has two campuses covering an area of more than 214 acres, and about 20,000 students and more than 1,400 faculty and staff members. It has partnership and cooperation with more than 100 universities and research institutions around the globe, and is the first Chinese university which established Summer School Program with all the courses being taught in English. ECUPL enjoys an international reputation as “The Oriental Pearl in legal education”. According to the review held by the Ministry of Education of China, the law school of ECUPL ranks top 5 among over 600 law schools in China. COURSES The courses will be offered in English by distinguished professors from ECUPL, covering the key areas of Chinese Law including: Chinese Constitutional Law Corporation Law Chinese Civil Law & Civil Procedure Contract Law Chinese Criminal Law & Criminal Intellectual Property Law Procedure Foreign Investment Law OPTIONAL EXCURSIONS TO SUZHOU AND HANGZHOU Suzhou City, a cultural and historical city in east China's Jiangsu Province, is celebrated around the world for its elegant gardens. The history of Suzhou's gardens can be traced as far back as the Spring and Autumn Period (770 BC 476 BC). Dozens of them, such as Zhuozheng (Humble Administrator's) Garden, Liuyuan (Lingering) Garden, Wangshi (Master of Nets) Garden and Huanxiu (Embracing Beauty) Mountain Villa, are still well preserved today. Hangzhou is the capital of Zhejiang province and its political, economic and cultural center. With enchanting natural beauty and abundant cultural heritages, Hangzhou is known as 'Heaven on Earth' and one of the ten most scenic cities in China, renowned for its historic relics and natural beauty. One of Hangzhou's most popular sights is West Lake. The lake itself covers an area of 6 km2 (600 hectares) and includes some of Hangzhou's most notable historic and scenic places. Adjacent to the lake is a scenic area which includes historical pagodas, cultural sites, as well as the natural beauty of the lake and hills. ECUPL has rich experience in holding international programs in law. By the end of 2014, it has operated 31 sessions of the Chinese Law Program Summer School with an American university. Also, the year 2014 has witnessed the 20th anniversary of the Chinese Law Program Shanghai Winter School co-host by ECUPL and a renowned university in Australia ever since 1994. The University has similar programs operated in conjunction with many of its 120 partner universities across the globe.
