Role Profile South East England Skills Development Manager The Tech Partnership – the growing network of employers creating the skills for the digital economy – is creating a new post of South East England Skills Development Manager. This post is to directly support the objectives of both the Tech Partnership and Enterprise M3 Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP). Job description The purpose of this role is to make the skills system work more effectively in creating the skills businesses need for growth in the digital economy. This will involve: - Understanding local and national strategic priorities in relation to skills for the digital economy - Establishing effective collaboration between employers and educators to address priority digital skills issues - Putting in place sustainable solutions, including leveraging existing investments and national strategies to the benefit of the South East Specific areas of focus include: - Inspiring more young people, particularly girls, about technology education and careers. - Accelerating the flow of talented people from all backgrounds into technology careers, through apprenticeships and industry-backed higher education programmes - Developing strategic digital skills for growth, for example cyber security, big data, mobile, e-commerce and the Internet of Things. - Promoting education and training that meets industry standards. Activities will include: - Identifying and bringing coherence to relevant existing initiatives to address digital skills. - Bringing together employers with schools, colleges and universities for mutual benefit through working parties, events and other means. This will include leveraging national investment in digital careers activity for the benefit of employers and young people in the South East. - Increasing the uptake of apprenticeships, including through new degree apprenticeships and the new ‘Trailblazer’ apprenticeships, by encouraging employer demand and ensuring high quality education and training provision is in place to meet it. This will include leveraging the national Tech Industry Gold industry accreditation scheme for the benefit of employers in the South East. - Increase contact between employers and young people through mentoring, internships and work placements. This will include leveraging national schemes in these areas for the digital industries. - Helping employers to take advantage of the Tech Partnership’s Training Fund to develop higher level skills of strategic importance to the economy. - Supporting the wider skills teams in the LEPs to ensure coherence in approach to employers and partners in support of their wider skills strategies. - Creating new proposals and business cases for investment where appropriate. - Reporting on tangible benefits delivered through the role. 1 Person Specification Capability area Requirements Core skills / attributes Knowledge and experience Educational attainment - Initiative – self starter and highly self motivated - Relationship management – able to quickly establish effective relationships with employers and stakeholders at all levels - Able to foster cooperation and collaboration between people with different priorities - Delivery focussed with a track record of personal delivery of tangible results - Excellent verbal and written communication skills – accurate and compelling - Understanding of the skills sector, including apprenticeships, private training provision, FE and / or HE - Experience of the tech sector (desirable) - Graduate or equivalent Terms and conditions The primary base will be with Enterprise M3 in Farnborough, with regular travel expected to employers and stakeholders, to the head office of the Tech Partnership in London, and to other LEPs in the South East. This will initially be a one year fixed term contract, with salary commensurate with experience up to £33,000 p.a. plus attractive benefits package. 2 About the Tech Partnership The Tech Partnership is a growing network of employers creating the skills for the digital economy. About EnterpriseM3 The Enterprise M3 Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) is a public/private partnership set up to support and sustain economic growth at a local level. Enterprise M3 is an inclusive and authoritative catalyst for enterprise. It works as a catalyst to achieve its vision in four complementary ways: It co-ordinates - bringing partners together to create improved outcomes through its Implementation group and network of Action Groups. It informs - communicating what is available from partners through its website and social media, events and networks. It advocates - commissioning evidence and lobbying for action from partners or government. It delivers - carrying out activities itself, where this is the best solution.
