PP Gary Parker, co-ordinator of the Cowes Australia Day event with Steve Parker who is a representative of the Boonwurrung people and Chair of the Aboriginal Education Consultative Group. Steve will take part in Australia Day ceremonies in Cowes, telling stories on the lawns and officiating in the formal opening ceremony. Our Schedule Report at the Cowes Cultural Centre: 9.00am Entertainment commences 9.30 to 11.30 Presentation etc 11.30 The marquee will need to be erected prior to the entertainment and the site prepared for the official ceremonies starting at 11.30. District 9820 Page 2 Last Week – Visit to Foster Medical Report Nothing to report Channel Challenge Saturday 11th February Volunteers required Jennifer Jones, President of the Foster Museum briefed attendees on the history of the Museum The Foster Museum – site of last week’s meeting The building is the old Post Office and was moved to the current site when the new Post Office was built. The Museum site contains a number of buildings including a genuine miner’s cottage (see top photo), 2 old classrooms from local area schools and the old local gaol which was in operation until 2010 when a new gaol was built and the old gaol moved to the Museum site (see page 4 ). The visit was a pleasant evening of fellowship and pleasant weather. President Graeme’s ThankYou Message to Foster Dear Ian, Despite our inauspicious start, last night was a great night You and the ladies went to a lot of trouble with the meal, the venue was great, and the company was congenial. We did well having 18 there. Everybody mixed well. If you reciprocate next year, we will have a lot to live up to. District 9820 Page 3 President’s Report J January is Rotary Awareness Month. Australia Day is a good opportunity to let people know that we are not just a group of grumpy old men. It could be a recruitment opportunity as well. This last week has been a very social week for us. For the trip to Foster, there 18 in total who went across. Eleven were current members. I was happy with the numbers and the result. The meeting with KWR Lang Lang at the San Remo foreshore was arranged at short notice, and proved successful as well. A total of 16 turned up, 13 of whom were current members. I was not aware that this is an annual event for them and we should plan for that next year. Two meetings in a week should be credited for one, either or both [I reckon] Foster is planning a return visit next year. It might be better in February, if that can be arranged. It would be good to get the Conference application forms into Sally at the next meeting. [a] time is running out [b] the partners might like to discuss available accommodation with Sally.
