May 3 – May 9, 2015
Stafford County
Falmouth Intersection Improvement Project
(Update) Motorists should expect the following lane closures this week in connection with the
Falmouth Intersection Improvement Project. Flaggers and/or electronic signs will direct
motorists through the work zone:
Route 1 South
Monday - Thursday, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.; motorists will be restricted to one lane on Route 1 south in
vicinity of the Falmouth intersection.
Carter Street
Thursday, 6 p.m. – 6 a.m.; Carter Street will closed to traffic. The road will be closed between
Butler Road and Gordon Street. Residents will be provided access to their homes during the
closure.
Butler Road
Sunday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 6 a.m.; motorists will be restricted to one lane on the westbound
side of Butler Road at Carter Street.
Route 1 at Falmouth
(New) Sunday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 6 a.m.; traffic will be periodically shifted to the northbound
or southbound side of Route 1 for waterline installation. During the traffic shift there will be one
lane open in each direction on either the northbound or southbound side of Route 1.
Route 3 Business (Kings Highway)
(Update) Sunday – Tuesday, 7 p.m. – 6 a.m.; crews will continue milling and paving on the
westbound side of Route 3 (Kings Highway) from the Blue and Gray Parkway to River Road
located just east of the Chatham Bridge. Motorists will be restricted to one lane in the work zone.
Expect delays and a rough driving surface.
Route 218
(New) On Monday work on the Route 218 Paving and Safety Improvement Project will begin.
The project will begin with a tree removal operation near Ferry Road and moving eastward
towards King George County.
This week motorists should expect daily lane closures at various locations between Ferry Road
and McCarty Road from 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work
zone.
Routine Maintenance Activities
(Update) Monday - Friday, 6 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.; crews will be performing routine maintenance
that may cause brief travel delays at the following locations:



Route 1 - mowing
Route 610 – mowing
Skyline Drive and Ely Ford – placing stone
Spotsylvania County
Interstate 95 North
(Update) Tuesday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m.; crews will be milling and paving on I-95
north between Exit 126 (Rt. 1/Spotsylvania) and Exit 130 (Rt. 3/Fredericksburg). Motorists
should expect lane closures and delays in the work zone.
Route 2/17 Business
Sunday - Thursday, 7 p.m. – 5 a.m.; crews will continue milling and paving on Route 2/17
Business between Powell Street and the Fredericksburg City limits. Expect delays and a rough,
unmarked driving surface.
Route 627 (Gordon Road)
(Update) Sunday - Wednesday, 8 p.m. – 5 a.m.; crews will be paving on the northbound side of
Gordon Road between Route 620 (Harrison Road) and Route 3 (Plank Road). Motorists should
expect brief delays in the work zone.
Routine Maintenance Activities
(Update) Monday - Friday, 6 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.; crews will be performing routine maintenance
that may cause brief travel delays at the following locations:




Courthouse Road – mowing and brush cutting
Plank Road – mowing
Chancellor Road – shoulder repair
Stubbs Bridge Road – brush cutting
Caroline County
Routine Maintenance Activities
(New) Monday - Friday, 6 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.; crews will be performing routine maintenance that
may cause brief travel delays at the following locations:

Route 301 – mowing
Westmoreland County
Route 3
(Update) Monday – Saturday, 7 p.m. – 5 a.m.; motorists will be restricted to one lane on Route
3 in the Town of Montross. Crews continue milling, paving and striping in this area. Expect
delays.
Under Construction
Spotsylvania County
Leavells Road at Harrison Road
The median and turn lane improvement project at the Route 639 (Leavells Road) and Route 620
(Harrison Road) intersection is near completion. The extended turn lane is now open to traffic.
Loriella Park Drive
Loriella Park Drive is now open to traffic. Motorists should expect periodic lane closures in the
work zone as crews work towards completion of the project.
Plantation Forest Drive
(Update) Construction continues and a single-lane closure remains in place. Work is expected to
be complete mid-May 2015.
Route 17/Benchmark Road/Crossroads Parkway
Motorists should expect lane closures and brief traffic stops on Route 17 at Benchmark Road and
Crossroads Parkway, located just east of the CSX railroad tracks and west of Jim Morris
Road. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone. This work is related to construction
of a new Virginia Railway Express station and parking lot. This project is being administered by
Spotsylvania County.
Stafford County
Route 17
Construction is underway to widen Route 17 from four to six lanes between McLane Drive and
Stafford Lakes Parkway, a distance of nearly 2 miles. The work zone extends from just south of
the I-95 interchange to Cardinal Forest Drive. Motorists should be alert to changes in traffic
pattern and periodic overnight lane closures. Project completion date is December 2016.
Falmouth Intersection (Route 1/Route 17 Business/Route 218)
Construction is underway. Motorists should be prepared for brief delays and periodic lane
closures on Butler Road and Route 1 just north and south of the Falmouth intersection. Project
completion date is September 2015.
King George
Route 218 @ Machodoc Creek
Construction is underway on the Machodoc Creek bridge replacement project. Traffic on the
bridge has been reduced to one lane. Temporary traffic signals at each approach to the bridge
control traffic crossing the bridge. The signals will remain in place through July 2015. Motorists
can expect an additional 5-10 minutes to cross the bridge during peak travel times on weekday
mornings and afternoons. In addition, a 10 foot lane width restriction for vehicles is in place.
City of Fredericksburg
Fall Hill Avenue Improvement/I-95 Bridge Replacement Project
Construction is underway on the Fall Hill Avenue Improvement/I-95 Bridge Replacement
Project. Motorists should expect lane closures and brief delays on Fall Hill Avenue between the
Canal Bridge and Carl D. Silver Blvd. The project is expected to be complete in January 2017.
