We support extraordinary
craftspeople who create
exquisite work
Our focus is on nurturing and
supporting designer-makers talented designers and artisans from
a broad range of disciplines with a
craft basis to their work. At any one
time we house up to 165 designermakers at our two London business
incubators, and many hundreds
more access support through our
programme of workshops, seminars
and online resources.
We bring the work of designermakers to the centre stage
Having a studio at Cockpit Arts is a
recognised benchmark of excellence
in craftsmanship and we are a
renowned ‘hotbed’ of creative talent.
We were one of the first to initiate
Open Studios events. Today over
11,000 visitors come to see behind
the scenes four times a year and buy
direct from designer-makers and over
18,000 people subscribe online.

We trade for social purposes
and reinvest in the community
As a social enterprise our services
are offered below commercial
rates and any surplus we make is
reinvested to further our mission
to support and promote designermakers. We also offer Bursaries and
Awards, and our Creative Careers
programme provides previously
unemployed young people with a fast
track opportunity to a craft career.
We raise standards in
the contemporary craft
and design sectors
Our annual research demonstrates
that performance of our designermaker businesses has improved year
on year since our incubation model
was introduced in 2005. Cockpit Arts
makers outperform comparable small
businesses in the rest of the UK, and
a recent Social Return on Investment
(SROI) study showed that every £1
invested results in £3.36 in return.
Cockpit Arts is a certified social
enterprise and has been awarded
the Social Enterprise Mark as well as
Customer First, the national standard
for customer service.

Support Cockpit Arts
Cockpit Arts is a social enterprise and a registered charity.
We do not receive regular Government funding and are largely
self-funding. Funds raised are invested back into our social remit to
support and promote independent designer-maker businesses.
There are many ways in which you can support Cockpit Arts, so
please feel free to choose whichever option suits you the best. With
any donation, you will receive complimentary tickets to our twice
yearly Open Studios events and our Supporters e-newsletter.
Fans
£50 and up
The support of our Fans enables us
to give a new joiner an induction, a
start up toolkit and an assessment
of their business needs.
As a Fan of Cockpit Arts, all you have to do
is make a minimum donation of £50 per
annum, or any amount up to £500. For
just under £500 we can devise and run
a specialised training workshop, based
on the needs of our resident designermakers.
‘Since I have been at Cockpit I have become more
professional, organised and serious about where I want to
take my business in the next few years. My self-confidence
and business have gone from strength to strength. I feel like I
can finally see myself having a successful career.’

myself, in a highly competitive market, by giving me a
central London location I can invite brides to be to come for
appointments. The mentoring and business support has been
invaluable to me, and I appreciate being part of a creative hub
which has shaped my business and my ideas going forward.’
