Maruha Nichiro invests in Thai Cold storage with view to ASEAN demand Kingfisher Holdings, a subsidiary of
Japanese giant Maruha Nichiro, is investing in a joint venture on a coldstorage in the east of Thailand.
The Maruha Nichiro-owned company, which processes canned tuna, shrimp and other seafood, started construction
on the JV, named JPK Cold Storage, in April this year in Bangna Samutprakarn. The plan is for the site to be used
to store Kingfisher’s own raw material, as well as raw material from other companies, he said. It will have
a capacity of 20,000 metric tons.
Asia To Account For More Than USD 1 Billion Of Pharmaceutical
related Cold Chain Growth Through 2018
Of the total $15-billion-range predicted growth in biopharma logistics spend between 2012 and 2018 in this
year’s forecast, cold chain represents $3 billion. Asia is expected to account for the largest regional share,
more than $1 billion, of cold-chain growth through 2018.
The biggest drivers of cold-chain logistics over the next few years will be the continued development, approval
and market penetration of biotechnology-derived drugs, and the expansion in both usage and production of
these drugs and other cold-chain products in emerging markets.
“K” Line Establishes Joint Venture Cold Storage Business in Vietnam
As a part of the strategy to expand its logistics business further in Asia, Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (“K” Line)
has agreed to establish a joint venture with Cool Japan Fund Inc. and Japan Logistic Systems Corp. and to
construct and operate a cold storage in the outskirts of Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam. The new joint venture
company will construct and operate a cold storage with total floor area of approximately 9,300 square meters
on land with an area of approximately 20,000 square meters.
