Collingwood School Italy & Greece Tour March 3 -16 2015 What will you see and do? Day 1: Travel day Overnight flight to Italy Day 2 Florence Afternoon arrival in Florence. Dinner in local restaurant Day 3 Florence Walking tour of city and the Cathedral Afternoon exploring the leather market Dinner at an authentic pizzeria Day 4 Florence Visit the Uffizi Museum and the Accademia to see the famous David Dinner in a typical Osteria Day 5 San Gimignano - Rome After a short ride to San Gimignano we will tour this beautiful medieval town. In the afternoon we will continue on to Rome. The evening will consist of a walking tour of Baroque Rome and its main sites: Piazza Navona, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon and the Spanish Steps. Day 6 Rome – Vatican City Visits to the Vatican museum, the Sistine Chapel with its frescos and ceiling by Michelangelo. Then on to St. Peter’s Basilica, the largest Catholic church in the world. The afternoon will consist of teacher led activities Day 7 Rome Explore the heart of ancient Rome at the Forum and the Colosseum Free time in the afternoon Dinner at a local Roman Trattoria Day 8 Rome / Sorrento Bus to Sorrento Time to explore the beautiful coastal town Day 9 Sorrento – Capri Sorrento Morning trip across the bay on a hydrofoil to Capri the ‘Island of Dreams’ Tour of Capri and a chairlift ride to the highest view point Dinner in Sorrento Day 10 Pompeii – Overnight ferry to Greece Guided tour of the once thriving commercial centre, Pompeii. A hike up Mount Vesuvius In the evening, board the overnight ferry to Greece Day 11 Patra / Delphi Mid – day arrival to Patra followed by a bus trip to Delphi “the navel of the earth” according to the ancient Greeks Tour of the museum and archaeological site Dinner and overnight in Delphi Day 12 Athens Arrive in the mid morning. Visit the Acropolis, the Parthenon, the ancient Agora and the new Acropolis Museum to name a few places! Dinner will be in a typical Greek Taverna Day 13 Saronic Gulf A one day cruise to three islands: Aegina, Poros and Hydra. It is a chance for “Hands on” learning and “living history”! See many important works of Art that may be referred to in Art Class. Personal Objectives: Development Objectives: Learn the importance of personal responsibility: keeping your things neat and organized, being on time, getting yourself ready for the day’s events Learning how to travel, get along and live with different people in your grade. Exposure to different cultures and languages I would like to send my child on this trip. What do I do next to secure a place for my child? If you do NOT have a Canadian passport, begin enquiring about what Visas you may need. Once accepted on the trip, you will receive an ‘acceptance letter’ which will state the next steps in the registration process.
