Columbus High School Daily Bulletin 3/25/15 The Post Prom Committee will be selling Post Prom t-shirts during all lunch blocks at the east entrance on Thursday March 26th, Friday March 27th, and Monday March 30th. The cost of the t-shirts will be $8 for a size small, medium, or large. Size XL or larger will be $10. Come order you shirts! Can you sing, dance, tell jokes, make short films, play an instrument, or do anything else people enjoy watching? Then come audition for the annual teachers vs. students Variety Show on Wednesday, April 8th from 4-6pm in Nantkes Auditorium. Starting next week, Ms. Downing will have sign-up sheets outside her room for audition times. Your audition should be limited to two minutes and must be part of the act you will perform for the actual show. The Variety Show performance will be on Saturday, May 9th at 7pm. Freshmen, Sophomores and Juniors: Summer Opportunity - University of Nebraska College of Nursing in Norfolk is offering a summer camp June 2-3 "Generation LINK to Learn about Nursing. (Students must be 16 before June 2). This summer camp will offer numerous hands-on activities designed to enhance your knowledge of the nursing profession as you begin to think about your career. The camp is limited to 24 participants. In order to apply, an application along with two completed Teacher Recommendation forms and a $75 registration fee must be submitted by April 15. If not selected for the camp, your $75 will be returned. “Cornhusker Public Power District is offering six scholarships for high school students, grades 9, 10, or 11, to attend the week long NREA Youth Energy Leadership Camp in Halsey, July 13-17th. This opportunity is an all expense paid trip including transportation to and from camp. Entry forms are due to Cornhusker Public Power District by April 3rd. Central Community College Davis/Chambers Scholarship - Due April 1 The Davis/Chambers Scholarship recognizes academically promising students from diverse racial, ethnic and cultural backgrounds who often find that the financial requirements of postsecondary education are a major obstacle. Applicants should be planning to attend CCC, have knowledge or experience living or working in a diverse community or organization, plan to transfer to a four-year public Nebraska college or university after graduating from CCC, be a US citizen and a Nebraska resident and have financial need based on the results of the FAFSA. STUDENTS Information is available in the counseling office for the Family Literacy Volunteers. If you love working with kids, consider volunteering in the Family Literacy Classroom in the evening. A Children’s Room volunteer would help kids with homework, read to children ages 4-11, make crafts, join in the learning activities and assist the paraeducator in many other ways. UNL College of Education and Human Services STARTALK Chinese Language, Culture and Technology Summer Academy July 5-19. This academy is designed for learners with no or very little knowledge of the Chinese language. Deadline for applications is April 20. U.S. Service Academy/Military Day - March 28 This program is open to high school students/parents interested in the Congressional Nomination Process for U.S. Service Academies and other military opportunities. The program is from 10:00-12:00 at Lincoln East High School. JUNIORS - Summer Opportunity UNL College of Business Administration DREAM BIG Academy - July 12-16 Partnering with ConAgra Foods, this program places a specific focus on providing college access opportunities to first generation, low-income students from diverse backgrounds. This academy is an amazing opportunity for current high school juniors to explore the possibilities of college, learn about the field of business, develop leadership skills and connect with peers, as well as university students, faculty and staff. Selection will be based on high school GPA of 2.5 or higher and DREAM BIG application and essay. Students who are selected will be able to attend the DREAM BIG Academy free of charge. Apply online at http://cba.unl.edu/dreambig by March 27 SOPHOMORES - Summer Opportunity University of Nebraska Medical Center Summer Health Professions Career Workshop - August 4-7 Students who are entering into their junior year of high school are eligible to apply. Selections will be made on the basis of each student’s demonstrated level of interest, aptitude and scholastic achievement. Applicants must fill out and return the completed application and essay no later than June 1. The fee for the UNMC Summer Health Professions Career Workshop is $300 and includes food while on the UNMC campus (breakfast, lunch and snacks), chaperone expenses, dorm room expenses, transportation while in Omaha and learning supplies. The amount will be due upon your acceptance into the program.
