JulyJuly-August 2011 @ The Studio The Studio Knitting & Needlepoint 1121 W 47th Street, Kansas City, MO 64112 www.thestudiokc.com—(816) 531-4466 Service Project For Breast Cancer Patients Amigurumi Trunk Show and Classes The Studio's third quarter service project will benefit women who are currently receiving treatment for breast cancer. For many breast cancer patients and survivors, changes in appearance caused by treatments or surgery can pose physical and emotional obstacles in their journey to recover and heal. Missys’ Boutique at the University of Kansas Richard and Annette Bloch Cancer Care Pavilion is an appearance center designed to help patients overcome those obstacles with dignity and style. The Studio is pleased to welcome Kahra Graebner, more commonly known as cheezombie on Ravelry, for a delightful trunk show of her original knit patterns of Amigurumi. Amigurumi are small, squishy stuffed, very, very cute critters of all kinds. Kahra is a local designer of knit Amigurumi whose knitting manifesto states that all projects should only take a few hours to knit from start to finish and should also be fun. These fit the bill. The full line of Kahra’s Amigurumi patterns will be on display and for purchase at the Studio from Wednesday, July 20 to August 17. Patterns sell for $5 each. In addition, Kahra will teach two classes on a couple of her most popular Amigurumi patterns. Cancer patients and survivors can receive services and select products designed just for them. The Boutique is named after two women who lost their lives to breast cancer in their early 30s. Reflections Boutique, part of St. Luke’s Hospital Center for Breast Care, helps fund uninsured and underinsured breast cancer patients' wigs, prosthetics and other necessary items. It is a not-for-profit appearance center committed to improving the appearance, self-esteem and wellness of Kansas City area cancer patients. This service project will run from July 1 to September 30, ending right before National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October. A list of items Studio customers can knit or crochet and classes for this quarterly service project can be found on the back page of this newsletter.
