Louis Carney Biography
Louis began his sewing career at the early age of 12 in his hometown of Kansas City, Missouri, where he
studied tailoring, design and visual merchandising in advanced curriculum in prep school. After college, he
began his career in the sewing machine industry, which included working with stores in Chicago and New
York City where he now resides.
“Creative Sewing Techniques by Machine” published by AQS, as well as “More Creative Sewing
Techniques by Machine” are books Louis is featured with fantastic projects!
Teaching – a favorite part of everyday life, has afforded him the gift of travel. He has taught in all 50 states,
Mexico and lectured in London. With a focus on interiors, his special attention to detail, congenial class
atmosphere & beautiful samples, his classes always fill to capacity. His familiarity with machine products
and industry knowledge ensures a fun time to be had by all. Design influence utilizing embroidery software,
sergers/coverstitch and long-arm quilting is the latest of his ventures, focusing on detailed elements.
Mr. Carney has an illustrious list of clients, including, but not limited to: Bernadette Peters, Sara Jessica
Parker, Tommy Mitolla, Dr. Ruth, Mary Fisher, Nancy Wilson, the Rockefellers, Kristina Wildentstein,
Kathleen Glynn (Mrs. Michael Moore), Mrs. Sidney Poitier, Martha Stewart Inc and Vera Wang Inc., as well

Dan’s Corner
Once again more is happening around
here than I am prepared for! It is not that I
am sitting back hoping that things work
out either. Last month I told you about
our new Point of Sale System I was
working to install. I started the process
and found out that the system was in no
way ready for prime time. Instead, I have
agreed to help the company get it ready.
Now that sure threw some cold water on
things!
We have had so much fabric coming in I
had to hold orders. It was a matter of the
walls were starting to be pushed out and
there was no more room for another
thing. Although I would love to see the
walls get moved out at least another 30
feet that dream will have to wait on
having an investor or an inheritance –
whichever comes first!
Don’t miss Louis Carney this month. His
skills are amazing and he plans on
sharing some great techniques with us. I
realize he is a guy but this guy can sew
unlike another one you know who can
make the machines turn in one way but
not the other!

how to quilt using a serger and some
of the latest technology in the sewing
machine / embroidery world. Louis will
be sharing his unique background with
us and filling our minds with all sorts of
interesting facts too.
Sherry will be teaching you how to use
your sewing machines and spend time
with some of the more common feet
demonstrating how they work.
