President’s Message
There are so many ways to weave it can be overwhelming for a beginning weaver.
Like learning to ski, a new weaver needs to start on a gentle slope. The basics of
warping and tie-up and treadling present enough of a hurdle without attempting
complex weaves.
However, the very complexity offered by advanced weaves means a challenge lies
ahead to beckon you forward. Perhaps this is the year to try shadow weaves or
double-weave or undulating twills. Perhaps this is the year to discover swivel or
pick-up or lace weaves.



Beginning spinners may look at long-draw, spinning from the fold or worsted vs.
woolen and feel discouraged. But taking time to learn and practice the basics
makes the next step doable.

Our community of spinners
and weavers provides support to newbies through
SIGS (significant interest groups), workshops and programs. Let MSWG help you
expand your weaving and spinning horizons in 2014.

February’s Silent Auction
Once a year, MSWG holds a silent auction to
help you weed your stash or jettison
equipment you no longer use. Bring your fiber,
yarn or other fiber related items to the
February meeting. Tables will be setup to
display your things. Starting at 25 cents, we’ll
bid on each others’ items. Proceeds go to the
Guild. Tom Veatch will keep us on track.
Fibers Through Time 2014 Tucson AZ
“Are you stuck in the doldrums of the same old, same old? Are you getting tired of routine
threading? Or a pattern that fits like a comfortable old shoe? You go back to it because it sells
at the fair, but it's bor-r-r-ing. It's time to fertilize your mind with a sea of colors and new
techniques. Shopping with our vendors will definitely provide relief from the usual!
The Arizona Federation of Weavers and Spinners Guilds proudly presents its 8th biennial
workshop conference. We've invited 23 instructors from the United States and Canada to
offer you their workshops.”
Elaine Ross, General Chairman
Arizona Federation of Weavers and Spinners Guilds, Inc.
