XP3 Students | HOOKED | Middle School Small Group Dialog XP3 Students HOOKED Session 1: Bait & Switch Middle School Small Group Dialog Bottom Line: Look for the hook. Scripture References: When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed (James 1:13-14). Don’t be deceived, my dear brothers and sisters. (James 1:16) GOAL OF SMALL GROUP To help students understand that every temptation is rooted in lies; and to help them identify those lies. Create meaningful conversation. Adjust questions as needed, and don’t feel like you need to answer all of them. ICEBREAKER 1. Do you prefer sweet snacks or salty snacks? FROM THE TENSION 2. Define temptation. 3. Give some examples of things that could tempt someone. FROM THE TRUTH 4. We said, “In temptation, no one is a victim. We are all volunteers.” Do you agree or disagree? Why? 5. Give some examples of lies people believe when they give in to temptation. FROM THE APPLICATION 6. How can you enlist the help of other people when you feel tempted? 7. Instead of believing that God is mad at you when you give in to temptation, what is a truth you can hold on to instead? NEXT STEP: Leaders, remind your students that they are valuable to God, even when they give in to temptation. Pray and ask God to help your group rely on each other when they feel tempted. www.xp3students.org © 2015 The reThink Group, Inc. All Rights Reserved. 1
