PROPEL Session 1: Big Life
High School Small Group Dialog
Bottom Line: When it comes to growing our faith, doing is better than knowing.
Scripture References:
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on
the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall,
because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into
practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and
beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash” (Matthew 7:24-27).
GOAL OF SMALL GROUP
To help students understand that beyond showing up at church and hearing information, they can move their
faith forward by putting what they hear into practice.
Create meaningful conversation. Adjust questions as needed, and don’t feel like you need to answer all of them.
FROM THE TENSION
1. How do you think most people would define faith?
2. What are some ways a person can move his or her faith forward?
3. Name some reasons why we don’t make growing our faith a priority.
FROM THE TRUTH
4. Give an example of how acting on your faith is greater than knowing about your faith.
5. Give an example of when obeying God made you feel like you were missing out.
FROM THE APPLICATION
6. Name one area where you can do something more to grow your faith.
7. What’s one thing that’s holding you back from doing that?
NEXT STEP:
Leaders, ask your students to think about their answer to question #6. Encourage them to write down something
specific they can do this week. (Remember that the XP for this series is 4 excerpts from the Know God journal – this
is an easy first step for your students if they need a suggestion.)
