Why we need Crisis across
your support the UK
Homelessness is devastating, leaving people
vulnerable and isolated, and it’s rising fast in
our capital – up by 79 per cent since 2010.
Crisis believes everyone deserves a place to call
home and the chance to live a fulfilled and active life.
We help people rebuild their lives through housing,
health, education and employment services.
Crisis is the national charity for single homeless
people. Our purpose is to end homelessness.
We work in several regions and cities across the
UK. We run vital services for homeless people in
Birmingham, Warwickshire, Edinburgh, London,
Merseyside, Newcastle, Oxford and South Yorkshire.
Last year we worked with more than 8,000
people; awarded 2,853 qualifications; supported
550 people into work; and found homes for a
further 3,000. Our life changing work is only
possible because of supporters like you.
Thank you for taking part in
the Crisis Square Mile Run Series.

REGISTRATION
Our goal is to raise £150,000. We need every
single one of you to help us achieve this.
Crisis Square Mile runners can choose to pay £25, £50 or £100 per place. The Crisis Square Mile Relay
costs £60 per team of four. Please keep in mind that £25 of your registration fee covers the cost of your
participation so we ask each runner to raise a minimum of £50 to help homeless people change their lives
for good.
These Crisis Kits demonstrate how funds raised could help:
WELLBEING KIT £25 SKILLS KIT £50

The ten easy steps to
fundraising success
We can only raise £150,000
with your help. To make it
as easy as possible for all
our runners to raise £50
each, we’ve put together
10 simple steps to help
you reach your goal.
1. Set up an online fundraising
page: support.crisis.org.uk/
event/smr
• Set your target as
£50 (or more!)
• Personalise your page with your photo
and explain why you’re supporting Crisis
• Send it to all your friends and family
For those who prefer
collecting cash offline,
download a sponsorship
form at
www.crisis.org.uk/
downloads
2. Share your fundraising page
regularly on Facebook, Twitter
and LinkedIn and mention
@crisis_uk and #CrisisSMR
3. Show off your training and
donations on your work
intranet or a blog.
4. Organise a sweepstake.
Encourage people to predict
your finishing time and charge
£2 a guess. Sweepstake
forms can be downloaded
at www.crisis.org.uk/
downloads
5. Ask your HR team or team
captain about matched giving
to double your donations.
6. Sort out old clothes or
unwanted gifts then sell them
on ebay. If you tell people
where the money’s going,
they may give an
extra donation.
7. Organise a pub quiz, music
or comedy night and have
some fun while raising money.
We can supply fundraising
materials email [email protected]
8. Arrange a master class and
share your skills with friends,
family or colleagues and
charge a fee for doing it.
9. If you’ve got a birthday
coming up, ask your friends
and family to donate to your
fundraising page instead of
buying you a present.
10.Do the run in fancy dress
and let your sponsors
know - should be worth
a few more donations.

Registration for both the relay and the run will be
at Paternoster Square. This is in the heart of the
City of London in the shadow of St Paul’s Cathedral.
Here are some tips to make sure you
achieve what you want to on race day.
The closest tube station is St Paul’s (Central Line).
Take exit 2 out of the station and turn immediately
left towards St Paul’s then turn right into Paternoster
Square. Mansion House and Cannon Street are just
a short walk away. Head for St Paul’s Cathedral with
Paternoster Square being just north of St Paul’s.
1. If you are new to running or haven’t
exercised in a while make sure you
take a few weeks to get to the level
of fitness you will need to complete
the run. Start slowly and set yourself
achievable targets each week.
2. It’s important to rest in between
training runs, make sure you
don’t push yourself too hard.
3. Feed your body correctly with a
diet rich in carbohydrates.
4. Stay hydrated, drink plenty of
water and try to avoid alcohol
the day before the run.
5. Run at your own pace. You should
be able to comfortably hold a
conversation while running.
6. Try and run the full distance one
or two times before the run.
7. At the Crisis Square Mile Run, make
sure you warm up and down to
avoid injury. We’ll have a group
aerobic warm up before the run
to get those muscles started.
Parking
Please remember that the area will be subject
to the London congestion charge until 6pm and
parking will be very limited. The nearest NCP
car parks are in London Hillgate House, Seacoal
Lane/ Limeburger Lane, EC4M 7HY and London
Aldersgate, 158-170 Aldersgate Street, EC1A 4HR.

As well as providing life-changing services,
at Crisis we campaign to change the root
causes that mean people become and
remain homeless. Even in the 21st century,
homeless people who ask their council for
help are being turned away to sleep on the
streets – cold, desperate and forgotten.
This is nothing short of a scandal.
To investigate the scale of the problem,
Crisis recently sent undercover researchers
to 16 councils across England to test the
support that is offered to homeless people.
In 50 out of 87 council visits, they received
little or no help at all. Across the country,
this is likely to mean thousands of homeless
people are asking for help and getting
nothing. In response, Crisis has launched
No One Turned Away, a campaign calling
for politicians to review the help single
homeless people in England get under the
law, so no one is forced to sleep rough.
