Notes
1. Back and sleeves are worked in Stockinette
stitch with Garter stitch borders.
2. Fronts are made up of three vertical strips
of mitered squares. Each mitered square
begins by picking up stitches across one
edge of the previous mitered square (if any)
and corresponding mitered square of the
previous strip (if any). This joins the mitered
squares as they are knit.
3. The topmost mitered square at the front
edge of each strip forms one-half of the
collar. Edges of each collar square are
sewn together at back neck, and lower
edge of collar is sewn to neck edge.
BACK
With smaller needles and A, cast on 68 (74,
82, 90, 98) sts.
Work in Garter st (knit every row) until piece
measures 2 (2, 3, 2, 2)” (5 (5, 7.5, 5, 5) cm)
from beginning.
Change to larger needles and work in
Stockinette st (knit on right side, purl on
wrong side) until piece measures 22 (22,
23, 26, 26)” (56 (56, 58.5, 66, 66) cm) from
beginning. Bind off.
RIGHT FRONT
First Strip of Mitered Squares
Mitered Square 1
With larger needles and A, cast on 30 sts.
Row 1 (wrong side): K15, place marker, k15.
Row 2 (right side): Knit to 2 sts before marker,
ssk, slip marker, k2tog, knit to end of row—
28 sts.
Row 3: Knit.
Rows 4–27: Repeat last 2 rows 12 times—4
sts remain.
Row 28: Ssk, remove marker, k2tog—2 sts.
Row 29: K2tog—1 st.
Do not fasten off last st.
Mitered Squares 2–5 (5, 5, 6, 6)
With right side facing and last stitch of
previous square on right needle, pick up and
k14 sts evenly across side of previous mitered
square, cast on 15 sts—30 sts.
Repeat Rows 1–29 of first square.
Repeat until there are a total of 5 (5, 5, 6, 6)

Collar
Sew ends of collar extensions together. Sew
lower edge of collar to neck edging, easing to
fit. Note: Garter st is very stretchy. It may be
helpful to pin Collar before sewing, to be sure
