Evening Meeting at Shearman & Sterling LLP on 7 May at 6.00 pm

The CLA will be holding an evening meeting on Thursday 7 May at Shearman & Sterling LLP, 9
Appold Street, London, EC4A 2AP. Registration for the event will start at 6pm and the panel
discussion will start at 6:15pm.
Jackie Holland, Stephen Smith and James Webber have kindly agreed to speak on the following
subject:
"Procedural fairness in merger and market investigations”
Jackie Holland rejoined Slaughter & May in November 2013, having spent five years at the Office of
Fair Trading. Her roles at the OFT included Senior Director for the Policy Group, Procedural
Adjudicator for Competition Act cases and one of the Phase I decision-makers on merger cases.
Jackie has around 20 years’ experience in the public and private legal sectors. She advises a range of
clients on a wide range of matters, including antitrust, merger control, State aid and regulatory issues.
Stephen Smith leads RPC’s Competition and Anti-Trust practice. He has extensive experience
advising across a broad range of EU and UK competition law matters, including representing clients on
complex merger investigations and in relation to cartel and other anti-trust investigations before
regulators in the UK and the European Commission. Stephen is currently advising the 'SCOP' (the
operating company behind Eurotunnel's MyFerryLink service) in its appeal before the Court of Appeal,
having advised throughout the two prior Competition Appeal Tribunal cases and the regulatory phase
before the CMA (and the CC before that).

James Webber, is a partner at Shearman & Sterling and specialises in EU and UK antitrust law.
James’ competition practice and experience are unusually broad covering merger control, behavioural
competition, State aid and litigation. His work has included acting as lead advisor on EUMR and CMA
merger approvals, as well as coordination of multi-jurisdictional merger filings, defending cartel
damages actions, advising in respect of UK market investigations and studies as well as counselling
clients on on-going antitrust and competition matters.
The meeting will be followed by drinks and canapés. There is no additional charge for members.
There will be a charge for non-members: £50, or £35 (full time academic/public sector employees), or
£10 (students, trainees, pupil barristers).
