On-Going Learning: This is one of several values our staff shares. As such,
every one of our staff members takes part in Professional Development. I had
the opportunity to take part in the U-Lead conference this last month. This
conference brings in educational leaders from across the world. To put it into
context for our students, it would be like being able to listen to J.K Rowling,
author of the Harry Potter series, speak in person and even have some
one-on-one conversations.
One of the speakers who is an educational guru, Simon Breakspear, worked
directly with principals and senior administration from across our entire school
division. We peered into our crystal ball to try to picture education in a few
years and what would be required. Well, there is no real crystal ball, and we
know that we can only make educated guesses. But, one thing was for sure; our
students are currently among the top achieving in the world! Why? Because we
aren’t content saying we are great; we still strive to do better.
My commitment to our Cougar family: We will continually strive to do and get
better! We will do this by focusing on the basics of student education of
numeracy and literacy while continually providing opportunities for students to
succeed in a challenging and engaging environment. We will work with parents
and stay abreast of the best practices available to us.
Learning is fun for staff, students, and parents alike. Parents, I’m sure you
have many learning opportunities, despite being out of the classroom now for a
while. But, Black Gold would like to offer you the opportunity to keep that
learning going through a series of workshops being put on jointly between
Leduc Junior High staff and parents. I encourage you to check out the
information attached to this newsletter both on the electoral wards being
reviewed and the workshops from ELJHS.
Have a fantastic Spring Break!

FLOOR HOCKEY:
Congratulations to all of our elementary floor hockey teams this
season. All teams displayed a competitive spirit and great
sportsmanship. Congratulations to the 5/6 girls team who won
silver @ École Dansereau Meadows, and the 3/4 girls team for
winning silver @ Robina Baker. The 3/4 boys will be playing on
April 10th & 11th, at Caledonia Park and the Grade 5/6 boys play
on April 17th & 18th, at ÉCPS. Schedules will be coming out
shortly for those games. We would like to send out a huge thank
you to all of the parents, students, and teachers who helped make
our floor hockey season a success.
SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR:
A big thank you to the parents who supported and
worked at our school's book fair; Katya Wallis,
Bobbi Milne, Michelle Koizumi, Kim Miller, Stacy
Campsall, Penny Jackson, Kelli Kopfensteiner &
Tammy Oliver. We sold approximately $6000.00
worth of books, and at this time the book fair is
still open. A huge thank you as well to Mrs. Lyall
for all your hard work to make our Book Fair such a
huge success.
KLONDIKE TRACK MEMBERS:
ÉCPS Klondike Relay team will be
attending the Klondike relays on
Tuesday, April 7th. They will be
leaving the school at 2:15 and
returning by 9:30 that evening.
There will be another notice
coming out after April 14th
about outdoor track for any
Grade 3 - 6 students interested.
LEAVE OF ABSENCE:
Mrs. Birch has decided to take a leave of absence from her job as our
Accounting Secretary to persue a long time dream of working for an
airline company. She is hoping to return in the fall. In the meantime we
would like to congratulate Mrs. Plitt on her new position as our
Accounting Secretary. She will be filling in for Mrs. Birch. We would
like to welcome her to our front office team. Congratulations and we
wish you both the best of luck!
2015 - 2016 VERIFIFCATION FORMS:
In an attempt to alleviate some of the lineups and problems that we encounter in the fall,
for both you as parents and us as a school, we would like you to fill in your Verification
forms for the 2015 - 2016 school year. This will give us a good indication of student
numbers for classes next year.
Forms went home on March 26th, and should be returned by April 8th.
Thank you for your cooperation with these verification forms; we prefer to do all updates of
addresses, phone numbers and e-mail addresses prior to September. We look forward to
seeing you then.

PARENTS’ ASSOCIATION &
SCHOOL COUNCIL:

Everyone is welcome to attend.
The ÉCPS Choir is hitting the road…
… to the Leduc Music Festival! Our talented and hard working choir will be singing at the
Leduc Music Festival on April 15th. We are very excited about this opportunity.
Permission forms have been sent home already. We will also be performing at the
Assembly on April 7th, 2015.
TOO MANY CLASSROOM INTERRUPTIONS:
Parents, we need your help. The number of requested interruptions to our
classrooms is increasing. We have a policy where teachers are not to be
interrupted during class, and I would like to have the same policy for
students. Classroom interruptions disrupt the flow of the lesson and make it
difficult for students to re-focus on the task at hand. You might think that
the secretaries need not interrupt the class; they can simply hold the
message until the bell rings and then deliver it. When our secretaries are
busy doing their administrative work, answering telephone calls, and
assisting individuals at the counter, it is quite easy to neglect delivering the
message right at the bell. If this message is at 3:00 p.m., a child could miss
it, and the consequence could be harmful. Therefore, please assist us by
making all arrangements with your child before he/she leaves for school.
Thank you for your help with this.

EXTRA CLOTHING:
It is once again that time of year
when the kids come to the office
with soaking wet socks, pants,
boots, etc. If you could please send
extra clothing with your child, we
would appreciate it. As well, we
are always in need of extra
clothing such as girls & boys pants
(any size - we are right out) socks,
shirts, etc. Thank you for your
help with this.
Rainbow lunch has been a great success during the month of March!
Students were made aware of the importance to have a balance from all four
food groups from the Canadian Food Guide. Three lucky classes won the chance
to play in the gym. Thank you all for your participation!

EMPOWERING RANGERS: WE ARE SILENT
On April 16th; join the Empower Rangers and the students of École Corinthia park School by going silent for 24 hours. The entire
school will be participating in various ways. Each classroom will receive an item during a period of the day, where they will then
remain silent for a predetermined amount of time. Furthermore, the DIV 2 students will have the option to stay silent all day. By
participating, you will be standing up for those whose voices are not heard, both around the world and here at home. Stand up for
the millions of children, primarily girls facing poverty, exploitation and the denial of their right to education. Stand up for students
in our communities that are being bullied and are too scared to speak out. Remember, sometimes speaking out means using no
words at all.
“We realise the importance of our voices only when we are silenced.” – Malala Yousafzai
COUNSELOR’S CORNER:
During the month of April, our counseling team will
focus on student self-awareness.
Self-awareness is having a clear understanding of your
personality, including strengths, weaknesses,
thoughts, beliefs, motivation and emotions.
Having a strong sense of self-awareness also helps
each one of us manage our attitudes, behaviors, and
actions in the moment.
During the month of April we will spend time in each
of the classes discussing what self-awareness means
and how it can help create a positive and supportive
school environment.
Your counseling team,
Mlle Marion, Mme. Harry, M. Deverdenne
