
Placement Test Scores: Standardized placement scores (ACT, PLAN, PSAT or COMPASS) that demonstrate college level academic readiness according to guidelines determined by the State of Arkansas; All
students who have not yet completed a college level math course and whose ACT Math score is 17 or below, will need to take the math portion of the COMPASS. Students testing below 19 on the Reading and/
or Writing portions of the ACT are encouraged to retake the COMPASS test to see if their scores have
changed or can be improved.

Developmental Courses: Only 12th grade students who have at least a 17 ACT sub-score in English,
Reading, or Math may enroll in Developmental Courses in English, Reading, or Math. Students can also
take the COMPASS test if their ACT sub scores are not a 17 or higher. NWACC offers the following developmental courses: READ 0033 College Reading, ENGL 0063 Intermediate Writing, MATH 0013 PreAlgebra, MATH 0053 Beginning Algebra, and MATH 0103 Intermediate Algebra. Students who place into
a developmental class can only complete the course(s) as a concurrent student if they are in the 12th
grade.

Credit Hours: On Campus Concurrent students are limited to seven (7) hours of college credit enrollment each semester. Students will be required to complete an On-Campus Concurrent Waiver form prior to being registered for any additional credit hours over the seven (7) hour limit. Waivers require the

copy of their immunization records to the NWACC Registrar’s Office documenting immunity against measles, mumps, and rubella.

Waivers: A waiver to NWACC for permission to take concurrent classes may be filed by a student who
has a grade point average slightly below a 3.0 and/or from a student who would like to take more than
seven (7) college credit hours during a given semester. A copy of the high school transcript will be required to file a waiver. Waiver forms are available from your high school counselor, and in our Admissions & Advising office. Waivers require the student meet with a concurrent advisor.

Grades: On Campus Concurrent students must receive a ‘C’ or better in all concurrent coursework to
remain in the On Campus Concurrent program. Students may re-take a course while still in high school
when a grade of ‘C’ or below is received if they maintain a 2.0 cumulative NWACC GPA and a 3.0 cumulative high school GPA. If a student is enrolled in ONLY ONE concurrent class and receives a grade of ‘C’ or
below they cannot re-take that course unless approved by the VP for Learning. All grades received for
college courses will be posted on your college transcript.

When Placement Test Scores Are Not Required: Opportunities do exist for those students who do not
demonstrate college level readiness through placement test scores or do not have a 3.0 GPA. If you have
a 2.0 GPA and do not have placement test scores you may select from a list of NWACC courses that do
not require prerequisite placement test scores. Please refer to the Course Placement Chart in the Concurrent Student Enrollment Packet. Please note these courses are not Developmental Courses.
