BEECK WASHABLE DISTEMPER
Highly water vapor permeable interior paint from marble lime and milk casein.
Particulary suitable for coatings on lime and clay based substrates.
Ranges of Application:
BEECK WASHABLE DISTEMPER is a concentrated
powder paint and must be prepared as follows: Add
1 kg powder to 1 liter water while stirring. Use an
electrical stirrer (drilling machine with a stirring whirl)
and stir for approx. 5 minutes until the preparation is
smooth and uniformly thick. Allow to sit for another half
hour and mix with another 0.5 to 1 liter water prior to
application. If necessary, sieve. Foamy air bubbles will
disappear during application. Seal prepared, ready-touse distemper airtight when not working and use up
within 3 days. Apply crosswise with soft mineral paint
brush or oval brush, extremely sparingly, evenly and
in very thin layers. Wet absorbent surfaces (clay, air
hardening lime) with water beforehand and allow to dry
until matt-wet. 2 to 4 coats with an intermediate drying
period of at least 12 hours, depending on surface. For
a slurry base coat, prepare 1 kg BEECK QUARTZ
FILLER P and 2 kg BEECK WASHABLE DISTEMPER
in 3 liters water. Thin with about 0.4 l water.

Color tone:
Lime white; can be toned to pastel intensity (max. 20 %),
using BEECK LIME FULL COLOR CONCENTRATE. As
common for limewashes is a „cloudy“ drying on nonuniform surfaces, pretest. Apply sparingly and lap-free.
For glazing technique add water and always make samples first.
Drying:
Under normal conditions, safe to coat after 12 hours.
Ensure proper ventilation while drying.
Yield:
On moderately absorent, smooth surfaces:
approx. 0.1 to 0,15 l of the prepared product per
application and m2, which equals 40 - 60 g BEECK
WASHABLE DISTEMPER.
Available Sizes:
1 kg, 5 kg and 10 kg in a paper bag.
Cleaning:
Clean appliances, tools and clothes immediately after
use with water.
Storage:
The powder lasts at least 24 month when stored
cool and dry. When prepared with water, use up
within 3 days.
Technical Features:
Composition:
BEECK WASHABLE DISTEMPER joins excellent
properties typical for limewash, like water-vapor
permeability, luster effect and biocidal effieciency with
fine application characteristics typical for resin based
paint systems. Not synthetic organic resins, but renewable milk casein provides excellent technical
features and allows a well pigmentable, non-chalking
coat even on water-repelling substrates. Casein paints
are still used the traditional way for architectural monuments. BEECK WASHABLE DISTEMPER is not dust
attracting and free of static build-up. Perfect room
climate properties:
Marble lime hydrat and milk casein, obtained through
acidification of skim milk. Kaolin (white porcelain clay)
and chalk as fillers. Free of preservatives and solvents.
BEECK WASHABLE DISTEMPER is used for openpored interior coatings on recoatable substrates,
like lime plasters and clay. Highly recommended for
renovation of lime based coatings in historical buildings.
Due to its excellent building physics and room climate
properties, also ideal for environmentally friendly framework and clay architecture. Contrary to conventional
limewash, improved covering qualities, tinting capacities
and processing features. Can be toned to pastel intensity
using BEECK LIME FULL COLOR CONCENTRATE.

BEECK WASHABLE DISTEMPER
Surface and Pretreatment:
General Requirements:
The surface must be clean, dry, solid and coatable.
Thoroughly dry-brush water marks and efflorescing
substances and seal spots with Shellac Primer. Pretest.
Touch up open spaces or flaws to match style and
structure. Apply slurry base-coat adding BEECK
QUARTZ FILLER P. Reinforce joints of panels, observe
manufacturer´s instructions.
Suitable Surfaces:
Lime Plaster (PIa-c), Lime based cement plaster (PII),
Renovation plaster system:
Check for sinterskin (glass-like glossy, waterproof
surface). If necessary, sand or use BEECK ETCHING
FLUID to make the plaster absorbent. Optimum
adhesion to fresh, but dry lime plaster. Wet absorbent
substrates beforehand and allow to dry until matt-wet.
Old coatings based on lime, casein or silicate:
Brush chalking coats. Scrub off any loose paint,
completely remove non-washable distempers using
a brush and water. Strip or sand off old oil-based and
latex paints. Degrease and matt-sand film-forming
coatings, pretest. Pay attention to preservation of
monument requirements.
Natural stone, Brick, Concrete, Gypsum:
Thoroughly clean and check for efflorescences (discoloration, salt marks). Only suitable for porous substrates, not for e.g. glazed hard-burnt brick. Touch up
crumbly masonry and joints. Remove molding oil
remainers on concrete using soap water. Always
check gypsum based surfaces (e.g. profiled gypsum
stucco) beforehand, use BEECK PROTECT PRIMER
for priming.
Clay:
Clay must be completely dry and coatable. Before
coating, wet and allow to dry again until matt-wet.
3 to 4 coats depending on texture and surface quality.
Coat crosswise and evenly in thin layers, using a soft
brush.

Outdoors, e.g. on historical framework facades,
washable distempers are only suitable to a limited
extent because it requires intensive maintanance when
directly weathered. No warranty on long-term durability.
For lime renders outdoors, we recommend BEECK
PURE CRYSTALLINE FINISH, a pure mineral silicate
paint according to VOB/DIN Para. 18 363 / 2.4.1:
open-pored, silification-active and extremely weatherresistant.
Deficient surfaces require a special treatment.
Unsuitable are surfaces that tend to efflorescences or
that are not alkali-resistant. The base e.g. of historical
buildings exposed to salt should be renovated using a
renovation plaster system acc. to WTA1) guidelines.

Hazard Class: not subject to identification requirements under Toxic Chemicals Ordinance/EU Directive.
BEECK WASHABLE DISTEMPER is alkaline. Protect
skin and eyes from contact. In case of accidental
contact, immediately rinse with plenty of water and
consult a physician. Carefully cover surfaces not to be
treated. Keep out of the reach of unauthorized persons.
Disposal of product remainders according to legal
regulations.
