ITS UNIQUE COIL SYSTEM SUPPORTS YOU PROPERLY AND PROVIDES A MECHANISM THAT REACTS TO YOUR PRESSURE POINTS AND WEIGHT DISTRIBUTION. EACH COMPONENT IS INTEGRATED RESULTING IN A FULL ABSORPTION AND RELEASE OF NIGHT TIME MOISTURE, WHICH PROVIDES A NATURAL DUST MITE CONTROL. THIS COMBINATION MAKES HYPNOS ONE OF THE HEALTHIEST, NON-ALLERGENIC MATTRESSES IN THE MARKETPLACE, THAT WILL PROVIDE YOU WITH A DEEP RESTFUL SLEEP. HYPNOS HANDCRAFTING HYPNOS COILS NATURAL FILLS It begins with hand layering of sumptuous natural materials. Using genuine hand side-stitching, the sides of the mattress are sewn directly to the top and bottom of the coil system. This time consuming procedure results in unprecedented overall structural strength. To ensure the even and correct positioning of all materials, traditional hand tufting is used, where twine is passed through the entire mattress and is tied-off with Wool Rosettes. Our Hypnos handcrafting procedure will ensure you a quality mattress that will stand the test of time. Each Hypnos mattress contains from 1000 to over 2000 full height, individually pocketed coils. Each coil is calico wrapped, for the ultimate in moisture control, and then nested in a honeycomb arrangement. Honeycombing, eliminates the gaps between the coils ensuring the highest level of full body support. Now each coil can react independently, providing support to even the smallest area of your body. Only the finest natural materials and white fibres are used in the construction of a Hypnos mattress. In addition, unique blends of Cotton, Wool and Silk are incorporated for complete climate control and added comfort. A special blend of teased white cattle hair maximizes the support, resiliency and breathability of our mattresses. 2 BODY SUPPORT Many people confuse firmness with support and contrary to traditional thinking, a hard bed is not the best way to relieve a painful back. Mattresses typically use foam of different density to support the curves of your body. Unfortunately foam breaks down and collapses over relatively short periods of time, losing its supportive abilities. A Hypnos mattress is specifically designed to provide the ultimate in healthy support for your spine. A long lasting steel coil system supports your physique and aligns your spine. Hypnos’ combination of high coil counts and honeycombing of the individual pocket coils, will give every inch of your body many years of consistent and correct support. DUST MITE CONTROL Fact: We loose about 11 pounds of skin yearly. Fact: Dust Mites feed on dead skin. Fact: Dust Mites thrive in moist, warm areas. Fact: Chemical treatments are not long lasting. At Hypnos we take 2 steps to control Dust Mites naturally. We use extremely tight woven Belgium damask, which will help prevent dead skin from penetrating into the mattress. In addition, we have our moisture control system. MOISTURE, MOLD & MILDEW CONTROL To control mold and mildew we reduce or eliminate moisture. By using natural fibres, calico wrapped coils and brass or silver air vents, the Hypnos mattress is designed to breath, so that the cup of moisture you lose each night can be taken from you and passed out of the mattress. The end result is the inside of the mattress is cleaner and you wake up feeling more refreshed. NO FOAM Foam, from the day of manufacturing, starts a transformation into a powder, slowly providing less support and comfort. In addition, small amounts of gaseous fumes are emitted. These fumes may affect people with sensitive skin or breathing problems. Further, foam retains night time moisture loss. By not using FOAM we eliminate these potential problems and create a mattress that breathes, stays clean and provides a safe, healthy sleep environment. W E HOPE THE FOLLOWING PAGES HELP YOU CHOOSE YOUR PERFECT MATTRESS . BY APPOINTMENT TO HER MAJESTY QUEEN ELIZABETH II BEDDING AND UPHOLSTERY MANUFACTURERS HYPNOS THE MOST COMFORTABLE BEDS IN THE WORLD LE LIT LE PLUS CONFORTABLE AU MONDE 9 INTRODUCTION We spend up to a third of our life in bed. It follows therefore that we should spend that time in a comfortable, supportive bed allowing us to rest and re-charge our batteries. Sleep allows our backs to release the stress accumulated during the day and to re-absorb the nutrients they need through the blood supply. If you are one of the 60% of adults in this country that has to live with back pain, from time to time, you are aware of how vital the right bed is. If you wish to avoid back pain, a good supportive bed, not necessarily firm, is a good start. An old or second hand bed which has shaped to someone else’s body will almost certainly aggravate or contribute to back pain. A sagging mattress puts strain on muscles and ligaments which in turn can leave long term problems. This is not just a problem for adults, children can be similarly affected when using secondhand or hand me-down beds. 10 HOW TO CHOOSE A NEW BED TYPE Think about the sort of bed that you would like. What do you like or dislike about your current bed? Do you like a soft or firm feel? What sort of style do you prefer? PRICE Choosing a bed is a very personal decision. The basic rule is, spend as much as you can afford. A lower priced bed will always be preferable to a secondhand bed. However construction and the type of fillings they have are important for; durability, support, comfort and health issues. TURNING Most mattresses need to be turned regularly to ensure even wear and tear. However mattresses can be quite heavy and you should take this into consideration. If you think this may prove to be a problem, a Hypnos Less Need to Turn or a Zip’n’Link mattress may be a better option. WIDTH Buy as big a bed as you can fit in your bedroom. The larger the bed the more room there is to move about so largely reducing disturbance for your partner. LENGTH Ideally a bed should be at least 4-6 inches longer than the tallest partner. MATCHING MATTRESSES TO BASES If you are buying mattresses and bases separately or mattress only, take care, as most manufacturers spend a lot of time to make sure specific mattress designs are supported by a complimentary base. Most of the time, your warranty will not be valid without the matching base. If you are not going to be using a base, be sure the mattress you have chosen is compatible with your bed frame. Slat systems must not have large spaces between the boards and must be designed to handle the weight of the mattress you have chosen. BACK PAIN SUFFERERS If you suffer from a bad back, check with your doctor as to what they may recommend. Do not assume that a bed with a medical sounding name will be any better for you than a standard one. These medical names usually only mean they are firmer. Although a firm bed can provide relief for some lower back pain an overly firm bed could aggravate a back condition. The basic rule of thumb is; get a quality bed that is supportive and comfortable to you. ALLERGY AND ASTHMA SUFFERERS Almost all beds will in time attract house dust mites. Regular cleaning, airing and the use of protective covers will reduce the effect. People suffer from a variety of allergies. Be sure the bed you are buying does not contain any material that may affect you. Natural fibres are generally the best and typically inhibit dust mites, and mold and mildew. AFTER SALES SERVICE If you are undecided about two or three equally suitable products think about the service and support that may suit you best. For example history of the company that makes the bed, retailer reputation, free delivery and setup, warranties, promotional offers or even free disposal of your old bed. 11 TRYING OUT BEDS Comfort and support are the two key factors to look out for when choosing a bed. Comfort is totally based on each individual. Support should be guided by factors such as your height and build and preferred sleeping position. Further the bed’s support should ensure you achieve good ‘posture’ in bed. Allow plenty of time when trying out beds and do not be rushed. Take these steps; 1. Ensure you are wearing comfortable clothes, take off shoes and overcoats and lie on the bed on your back. Slip your hand between the base of your spine and the mattress. If you can not easily do this the mattress may be too soft. If there’s a hollow the mattress may be too firm. Ideally your hand should be a snug fit. 12 2. Adopt your normal sleeping position. Try and lie for several minutes, typically 10 minutes is required. Ideally the mattress should mould to the shape of your body and feel supportive. When you lie on your side your spine should remain horizontal and you should easily be able to turn. 3. Try the mattress with everyone that will be using it. If you and your partner are very different in size and weight it may be that you need different mattresses. This is possible by having two single mattresses zipped together. TYPES OF MAT TRESSES SPRING MATTRESSES These are the most common type of mattress in Canada. The number of springs and the thickness of the metal used affect the feel and determine the support—generally the more springs the better the support. Open springs are generally found in the budget to mid price brand of beds. Rows of hour glass shaped springs are connected top and bottom by a spiral wire and the edge of the unit is normally strengthened by a retaining flat or round rod edge. Most are heat treated for improved tensile strength and durability. Continuous springs are made of one unbroken piece of wire knitted into a series of interwoven springs linked vertically rather than horizontally. Usually the gauge of the wire is thinner and the coils smaller giving a higher spring count and a softer, more responsive feel. These coils are typically in medium priced units. Pocket springs are rows of smaller, lightweight parallel or barrel-shaped springs, each in separate fabric pockets. The rows of springs are clipped, tied or glued together. Pocket springs allow for a more flexible response giving a higher degree of body support and individual sleep space, and are generally found in the mid-upper price brands. NON-SPRUNG MATTRESSES Most non-sprung mattresses are made from latex or standard foam. They are relatively light in nature and do not usually require turning. Typically when sleeping on a non-sprung mattress you will mould into the bed. This will give you a good cocoon feeling however you can be woken when trying to turn into a new position, for the mattress will need time to reform to this new position. Further, most people with loose up to one cup of water per night, and moisture is generally absorbed into your mattress. This could be an issue on a non-sprung mattress, if it does not have a method to help dissipate the moisture. Often feeling too warm is an issue with these mattresses and must be considered. UPHOLSTERY AND TICKING Ticking is the name for the mattresses outer cover which in combination with the tufts or quilting keeps the fillings together. Tufting, is the traditional way of holding the fillings together and is achieved by passing cords through the mattress and then to secure them with wool tufts. The most commonly used upholstery in quality tufted mattresses, are wool and cotton felt. The type, quality, quantity and combination of these and other fillings will determine the quality and overall comfort of the mattress. L OOKING AFTER YOUR BED To prolong a bed’s life it is important to follow the care instructions. Always air it for at least 20 minutes before making it and turn the mattress as instructed by the manufacturer to even out wear. Use a mattress protector when recommended, not all beds require it, and in general do not abuse the mattress.
