TYPOGRAPHY 1 PROJECT 4
1
Collaborative Animated Title Sequence
Visual Scores And Animated Title/Intro With Credits
For this project you will be working in collaborative groups
to create a title sequence for an animated short story.
Over the course of the project you will also share your
knowledge of typographic design with your collaborators
to assist them with future projects. Finally you will create
a postcard/poster for the animated short story.
Each group has been asked to come up with 3 different and
distinct concepts to present to the composers and animators. The initial brainstorming of these concepts was arrived
at in collaborative group work. But now, as part of the course
work for Typography I, each student will select one of the
concepts and further develop a typographic solution on their
own following a series of steps outlined below.
Outcomes
Step 1.
→→
Build the framework for a visual score. Use 1/2 second
intervals and sub divide each visual score into three areas of
content; sound, animation and typography. Create visualizations for the composers score. And depending on what is
available use rough cuts, animatics, or storyboards for the
animation section. Finally add compiled text for both the title
and the credits. (Use this ration 1/2 second = 1p0 to determine the length of your document. You set page margins and
document height.)
Packaged conceptual handout.
→→ Concept distilled down to one or two words.
→→ Include rough concept sketches, mood boards,
storyboards.
→→ Include appropriate motion test
→→ Printed Visual Score
→→ Finished animation with type
→→ Flyer/Poster with group credits Collaborative Animated

Step 2.
Using the visual score begin creating motion test for your
animated type. Check with your group to learn aspect ratio,
frame rate, and pixel ratio. Begin mocking up your solution to
your chosen concept for the animation. Test the readability
and sequencing of your type. Revise compositions and duration on screen as necessary. Present your work to your group
in person or via Trello link.

Step 3.
Work on motion, pacing, legibility, etc. If you have not done
so already add finalized type to the animation and export a
critique ready version.

*Each student will be responsible for creating an animated title
for the short story. and a running list of credits. At minimum
these should function as book ends to the animation but could
also run seamlessly throughout the animation.

Poster/Postcard/Mailer for Animation
Using the theme and concepts developed for the animated
short story each student is to create a supplemental card/
mailer/poster (final size 6x9 can be folded) presenting the
work and directing viewers/readers to a website where the
work can seen.
Extra credit for websites created to show your groups animation. Can be subdomains of your site.
