I had the good fortune (and misfortune!) of meeting Scott during the early LPW days when he was conducting research on diving ducks. I had the opportunity to help collect samples of scaup, which were implanted with transmitters before they were released into the Long Point marshes, so their travels across North America could be followed on the computer screen. I’ve gone on a number of flights with LPW staff when they were conducting aerial surveys of waterfowl over various regions of the lower Great Lakes…and I learned not to eat breakfast beforehand! For a number of years I’ve been able to assist Scott and Ted during their young biologists and young hunters summer workshops. Two years ago we introduced “Duck Day”, a family event held on the fourth Sunday in September at the LPW Research and Education Center, to help celebrate our waterfowl heritage. Through these interactions, I have become a firm believer in, and supporter of, LPW and their mission. Please visit their website www.longpointwaterfowl.org to see the outstanding contributions they make to research, education, conservation and our hunting heritage. Our goal tonight is to raise funds, but most importantly, to provide our guests with a high quality, fun-filled evening. We feel we have an outstanding array of gifts, artwork, trips, and prizes with something for everyone. Please have a wonderful evening and bid generously! Thank you to all my committee members, to our fantastic sponsors and donors, and to you, our guests, for making this event a success. Please visit our website at: www.longpointwaterfowl.org
