2015 AAMI Country vs. City clash will take
place in Wagga Wagga on Sunday 3 May at
McDonalds Park.
Country v City is one of the biggest events
on the CRL calendar and with NSW State of
Origin positions on the line, this year’s game
is shaping up as one of the most exciting in
recent times.

enthralling 26-all draw, with Beau Scott,

BLOCKER AND SIRO GIVE
WAGGA THE THUMBS UP
League legends Steve ‘Blocker’ Roach and
Paul Sironen visited Wagga on Monday to
promote the upcoming AAMI Country v
City Origin clash at McDonalds Park on
May 3rd.
The former Balmain Tigers duo and
members of the Country and City Origin
staff visited the Wagga Wagga City Library
to open the ‘Bush Footy’ exhibition which
will be housed in the library from
Monday, 20th April – Friday 22nd May.
Roach and Sironen also made an in-store
appearance at Telstra to present free
Country v City tickets to excited locals,
before speaking with ABC Riverina and making a guest appearance on local Group 9 Rugby League program ‘In the Sheds’.

THE NRL ROOKIE
The NRL in conjunction with
Channel 9 and McGuire Media will
be launching a new Reality TV
Show called "The NRL Rookie".
The aim of the show is to perform
a global search to discover new
talent capable of playing at the
highest level, with one winner
being granted an NRL contract.
This is a truly amazing opportunity
for players who for whatever
reason never got or never took
their chance to make it at the
highest level. Somebody out there,
who is currently unknown, will win
an NRL contract. This could be life
changing!
ELEGIBILITY CRITERIA
In order to be eligible for the program NRL Rookies must meet the following criteria:
 Applicants must be at least 20 years of age;
 Applicants must never have been on an NRL first grade Top 25 Squad List or played an NRL first grade game;
 Applicants must not have played a Second Tier NRL match (NSW/QLD Cup) or a Holden Cup U20's in either of the
last three seasons (being 2013-2015).

BUSH FOOTY EXHIBITION
Wagga Wagga City Library will host a special ‘Bush Footy’
exhibition, to acknowledge the significant and influential
role that the game has played outside of the major cities.
With the annual Country v City fixture to be held in
Wagga Wagga on Sunday, May 3 at McDonald’s Park,
Rugby League fans can also visit the exhibition which runs
from Monday April 20 – Friday May 22.
The exhibition will feature jerseys, game-day programs,
the Maher Cup and an interactive display featuring the
Country Rugby League Team of the Century. It will also
showcase other significant items and objects relating to
Rugby League in regional areas, including Greg Brentnall’s
1975 Country First jersey, Ron Crowe’s Australian Jersey

ANZAC DAY GAMES ACROSS COUNTRY
RUGBY LEAGUE
ANZAC Day is one of the most significant days on the
Australian calendar and there are a number of special
commemorative clashes taking place right across the
state in Country Rugby League this weekend.
World War where the famous Kangaroo March was
staged from Wagga to Sydney recruiting volunteers.
On return from war and in recognition of this march,
some of the young men formed a rugby league club and
named it the Kangaroos.
Gates open from 1pm with all proceeds donated to the
Wagga Wagga RSL Sub-branch.
Kicking off proceedings will be the Bathurst Panthers
taking on St Pat’s for the ANZAC Day Memorial Trophy
tonight at Carrington Park with U18s, League Tag and
First Division kicking off from 5:15pm before the main
game at 8:50pm.
Rugby League and AFL will come together in Wagga
Wagga for the ‘Commemorative Games’ on Saturday at
Robertson Oval.
This unique Australian event will feature two football
games and two separate codes and is determined to
establish a legacy that will last for many decades.
These games have particular significance for the Wagga
Wagga Kangaroos whose history dates back to the First
GREATER SOUTHERN REGIONAL TRIALS
The Greater Southern Region held their annual trials for the
Under 16s and Under 18s Red back’s and Stingray’s squads with
great success last weekend, with players competing from the
Illawarra Division, Group 6, Group 7 and Group 16,
Over two days, four preliminary games and four finals at Ziem’s
Park in Corrimal, each region managed to win a Plate or Trophy
for their efforts. While staying at the Wollongong Surf Leisure
Resort, all 200 players and support staff participated in an ASADA
and NRL Welfare session delivered by Andrew Ryan and Daniel
Holdsworth.
The weekends results were:
Under 16 Plate – Group 16 (22) def. Group 6 (12)
Under 16s Trophy – Group 7 (14) def. Illawarra (12)
Under 18’s Plate – Group 6 (16) def. Group 7 (12)
Under 18’s Trophy – Illawarra (24) def. Group 16 (16)
