Computer Network Access Authorization
Rights and Responsibilities
Computers and networks can provide access to resources on and off the company properties,
as well as the ability to communicate with other users worldwide. Such open access is a
privilege, and requires that individual users act responsibly. Users must respect the rights of
other users, respect the integrity of the systems and related physical resources, and observe all
relevant laws, regulations, and contractual obligations. This document, Computer Network
Access Authorization, details the rights and responsibilities of Crystal Run Village employees as
they apply to computer access. This document will cover general network access, Internet
access and e-mail access as well as the software usage policy.
Misuse of the company’s computer resources is prohibited and may result in the loss of
computing privileges. Additionally, misuses can be prosecuted under applicable statutes. Users
may be held accountable for their conduct under any applicable Company policies, procedures
or contractual agreements as well as being subject to civil damages and criminal penalties
including fines and imprisonment. Complaints alleging the misuse of Crystal Run Village
resources will be promptly investigated. Substantiated violations of this policy will be referred for
appropriate disciplinary action.
Crystal Run Village has established a policy with regard to access and disclosure of electronic
mail messages created, sent or received by company employees using the company’s electronic
mail system. This system is provided by the company to assist in conducting business. All
electronic communications and stored information transmitted, received, or archived in the
company’s information system are the property of the company.
The company reserves and intends to exercise the right to review, audit, intercept, access and
disclose all messages created, received or sent over the electronic mail system for any purpose.
Notwithstanding the company’s right to retrieve and read any electronic mail messages, such
messages should be treated as confidential by other employees and accessed only by the
intended recipient. Employees are not authorized to retrieve or read any e-mail messages that
are not sent to them. Any exception to this policy must receive prior written approval by senior
management of the company.
Examples of Misuse of Network, Internet and E-Mail Access
Examples of misuse include, but are not limited to, the activities in the following list
 Using a computer account that you are not authorized to use.
 Knowingly ordering, running or installing any software (including free products, but not
limited to products offered through Internet access).
 Obtaining a password for a computer account without the consent of the account owner.
 Using the Company’s Network to gain unauthorized access to any computer systems.
 Knowingly performing an act, which will interfere with the normal operation of
computers, terminals, peripherals, or networks.
 Knowingly running or installing on any computer system or network, or giving to another
user, a program intended to damage or to place excessive load on a computer system

or network. This includes programs known as computer viruses, Trojan horses and
worms.
Attempting to circumvent data protection schemes or uncover security loopholes.
Violating terms of applicable software licensing agreements or copyright laws.
Deliberately wasting computing resources.
Attempting to monitor or tamper with electronic communications or reading, copying,
changing, or deleting files or software without the explicit agreement of the owner.
Activities will not be considered misuse when authorized by appropriate Company
officials for security of performance testing.
Non-business related communications, research and Web browsing.
Connecting unauthorized computers or electronic devices to the Crystal Run Village
network on campus or at house locations. (This includes, but is not limited to, personal
laptops, net books, iPods, portable music devices, mobile phones, etc.)
Examples of Inappropriate Websites
Examples of inappropriate websites include, but not limited to the following list. These are some
of the websites that will be blocked.
 Pornographic (sexually explicit website)
 Streaming Video (example: youtube.com, on-line radio)
 Social Websites (example:facebook.com, myspace.com)
 Weather.com (weather bug application)
 Webmail (example: hotmail.com) – Potential virus threats and Trojan horses
All internet usage is recorded and logged on the CRVI systems.
General Network Access
All Crystal Run Village employees have access to various computer devices located throughout
the buildings. These devices are for the exclusive use of Crystal Run Village employees for the
completion of assigned business tasks. It is each employee’s responsibility to understand how
to access the computer system, network resources and required business programs before
attempting to use any computer devices on the Crystal Run Village network. Furthermore, all
users must understand the policies contained in this document and seek clarification from their
supervisor if they are unsure about any aspect of the Computer Policy and Procedures.
Internet Access
Internet access from the Crystal Run Village network is a privilege that must be respected. It is
the individual user’s responsibility to ensure that the Internet access is used only for business
related purposes and that the sites accessed are appropriate for a business setting. Crystal Run
Village employees who have been given Internet access must understand that they are
responsible for the safety and integrity of the Crystal Run Village network and computer
resources. Users should only visit the sites that are known to be safe. Furthermore, users must
not install any applications on their computer without approval from the Crystal Run Village
Information Technology Department.
Email Access
The company provided email is for business purposes only. It is not appropriate to use Crystal
Run Village email systems to forward jokes, inspirational stories, unsolicited advertisements or
offers, or any other non-business email to any other internal or external email addresses.

Email File Attachments
Email attachments are limited to 5MB (Megabyte) in size. Any email that contains attachments
greater than 5MB will be detected by the CRVI email system and will not be sent.
Software Usage Policy
Crystal Run Village licenses the use of computer software form a variety of outside companies.
Crystal Run Village does not own this software or its related documentation and unless
authorized by the software developer, does not have the right to reproduce it except for backup
purposes. Employees learning of any misuse of software or related documentation within the
Company shall notify the department manager or Human Resources. According to applicable
copyright law, persons involved in the illegal reproduction of software can be subject to civil
damages and criminal penalties including fines and imprisonment. Crystal Run Village does not
condone the illegal duplication of software. Any doubts concerning whether any employee may
copy or use a given software program should be raised with a responsible manager before
proceeding.
I, the undersigned, have read and do understand the Computer Policy and Procedures, as
described herein. I do understand that Crystal Run Village has exclusive ownership and/or
license to all data files, software, hardware, systems and networks. Crystal Run Village reserves
the right without notice to access user files and computer as required to protect the integrity of
computer systems. I understand that any infringement of this policy may result in the removal of
my computer network access privilege or other administrative action.
