SEIDEL, JR. UNIVERSITY DISTINGUISHED PROFESSOR EMERITUS, DEPARTMENT OF BIOMEDICAL SCIENCES Named a Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors The academy recognizes inventors who hold patents and encourages the translation of innovations and intellectual property for the benefit of society. Seidel retired in 2011 but continues to work part-time at the Animal Reproduction and Biotechnology Laboratory, a university Program of Research and Scholarly Excellence. Seidel, a reproductive physiologist, is an internationally recognized leader in assisted reproductive technologies, with a focus on in vitro fertilization and culture of mammalian embryos, including the related areas of oocyte maturation, micromanipulation, and cryopreservation of embryos and oocytes. Most of his research has been conducted with cattle and horses. “I like the big picture, and I have created a very diverse lab. It’s very important to me that people are trained in a multidisciplinary environment, yet do not lose sight of their training and focus area.” —Dr. Elizabeth Ryan DR.
