Directive #7
Cheerfulness strengthens the heart and makes us persevere in a
good life. Therefore the servant of God ought always to be in
good spirits.

Life Chair.
As Christian Family Life Chair for the past two years, I continue to learn how life or
circumstances in our lives can change suddenly.
One example is the Euthanasia assisted suicide ruling. We now have to focus on
Palliative care. Like life changes, we have to be ready to make sudden changes for
the best.
What is Palliative Care: “Anything used to alleviate pain, anxiety- serving to
alleviate.
I recommend we:





Promote palliative care
Arrange for guest speakers at our meetings to inform us more on palliative
care
Discuss with our families the various alternatives that can be requested and
how palliative care will be the best alternative to euthanasia assisted suicide.
Have discussions on completing Power of Attorney
Let us encourage our friends and family and ourselves to start thinking how
death can be viewed positively when we are called to our eternal home
rather than negatively with all the focus on Euthanasia assisted suicide.
Let us continue to support the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition- EPC.
Pope Francis has declared a year of consecrated life untilFebruary2, 2016. Our
National Chairperson, Judy Lewis has asked for councils to look at ways to
honour consecrated life.
A few suggestions she mentioned:




Pray for consecrated life
Offer the gift of a league membership for one year to consecrated woman
Request a consecrated person to be a guest speaker at a meeting to
share his/her journey of consecrated life
Hold a special celebration for consecrated women and men in your parish
to honour them and thank them for the example they are.
Let us not forget the family, youth, divorced and separated under this Chair. Have a
month in the year to cover each ministry.
Do not forget that the Pope’s visit to Philadelphia is from September 22-27, 2015.
As mentions in previous directives, let us join with parishes and make this a
pilgrimage.
