The R. J. Nixon Funeral Home provides our clients with a level of service that is above and beyond what
is expected of us, at a fair price. We will treat you with respect and appreciate your business. We promise
to provide the necessary information about our services and products so that an intelligent decision can
be made with out obligation. To our visitors, we strive to offer the hospitality of a good neighbor, and the
warm and inviting atmosphere that is necessary to support our clients in one of life’s most trying times.
We are proud of our community and will take every step possible to make our community proud of us.
With this in mind, we offer and explanation of some of the services and options that we can provide.
The goods and services shown below are those we can provide to our customers. You may choose only
those items you desire. However, any funeral arrangements you select will include a charge for our basic
services and overhead. If legal or other requirements mean you must buy any items you did not
specifically ask for, we will explain the reasons in writing on the statement we provide describing the
funeral goods and services you selected.

Our funeral home makes no representations or warranties regarding caskets or outer burial containers other than
those made by the manufacturer. The only warranties, expressed or implied, granted in connection with goods
sold with this funeral service are the express written warranties, if any extended by the manufacturer thereof.
NO OTHER WARRANTIES, EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO,
WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ARE
EXTENDED BY THE SELLER.

FUNERAL HOME SERVICE CHARGES
BASIC SERVICES OF FUNERAL DIRECTORS AND STAFF

Our basic service charge includes, but is not limited to: staff to respond to initial request for service;
arrangement conference with family or responsible party; preparation and filing of necessary certificates and
permits; placement of obituary notices; planning of funeral arrangements and coordination of service with
cemetery, crematory, vault companies, and others as required. Also included in this charge are overhead
expenses relative to our facility such as insurance, maintenance and utility expenses, secretarial and
administrative cost, and equipment and inventory expense.
This fee for our basic services and overhead will be added to the total cost of the funeral arrangements you
select. (This fee is already included in our charges for direct cremations, immediate burials, and forwarding or
receiving remains).
EMBALMING

Except in certain special cases, embalming is not required by law. Embalming may be necessary, however, if
you select certain funeral arrangements, such as a funeral with viewing. If you do not want embalming, you
usually have the right to choose an arrangement that does not require you to pay for it, such as direct cremation
or immediate burial.

DIRECT CREMATION**
RANGE OF PRICES: $1650.00 to $4835.00
Charges for the direct cremation without any attendant rites or ceremonies includes:
removal and shelter of remains, transportation to crematory if local; basic services of
staff and authorizations, crematory and county cremation permit. If you want to
arrange a direct cremation, you can use an Alternative container. Alternative
containers encase the body and can be made of materials like fiberboard or composition
materials (with or without outside covering). The containers we provide are made of
cardboard with a basic interior with pillow. Direct cremation does not include:
Embalming, other preparation of remains, death notice or death certificates.

ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY BURIALS (GREEN BURIALS)

RANGE OF SERVICE CHARGE PRICES:
This firm makes available several “green” burial options and is one of a select group of
funeral providers approved by the Green Burial Council; a non-profit organization that
encourages the use of burial as a means of facilitating the restoration, acquisition, and
stewardship of natural areas. For such arrangements, formaldehyde-based embalming is
prohibited as is the use of metal or concrete grave-liners, burial-vaults, or other permanent
burial containers. Caskets, coffins or alternative containers used to enclose and transport the
dead are made of bio-degradable materials and are available in a range of prices. Visitations,
church funerals and graveside services are options that may be arranged within the time
frame green burial allows. As with all of our services and merchandise offerings, detailed
price information for each component is itemized in this General Price List and Casket Price
List. Package services charges are also available in this price list.
SPECIAL NOTE: Embalming is not required by Michigan law except if burial or
cremation does not take place within 48 hours of death or if the deceased had certain
communicable disease. Normally embalming does not take place for this type of services.
But, there are embalming chemicals that are accepted today by the Green Burial Council
and a viewing may take place. However there is an additional fee for the use of these
chemicals ($150.00 plus NORMAL EMBALMING FEE OF $795.00). Each death and the
request families make for arrangements must be reviewed individually. Our funeral
home, therefore, reserves the right to disallow a public gathering or church funeral
with an unembalmed body under certain circumstances of death that would not be in
the best interest of our clients or the community at large.
ANATOMICAL GIFT TO MEDICAL SCHOOL
COMPLETE BODY DONATION
RANGE OF SERVICES $ 250.00-$960.00
Charges for a complete body donation without any attendant rites or ceremonies
includes: basic services of staff, preparing and completing death certificates and permit.
Removal and shelter of remains from place of death to funeral home, obtaining
necessary authorization, and transportation to the University of Michigan or Wayne
State University. (For Michigan State University in Lansing, an additional fee may be
applied for transportation.) When making a complete body donation, we need to check
with your university to see what their instructions are and when they will accept the remains.

Direct Green Burial Service Package*with casket

Direct burial with Alternative Container (simple casket) included. No embalming, no
viewing and a closed casket at the cemetery only. Deceased is bathed and dressed for burial.
Family and guests can meet at cemetery to witness the burial and have a brief committal
service. No services or viewing at funeral home.

Other preparation of remains. Our staff prepares your loved one for burial. This service includes
bathing the deceased, washing their hair, shaving them if desired and dressing them in any clothing
you provide.

Additional fee to prepare difficult remains, $250.00, Hearse extra $80.00
If you do not want the alternative container and pick a casket, you will get a $275 credit
toward your casket

Please note: Each request families make for arrangements must be reviewed
individually. Our funeral home, therefore, reserves the right to disallow a public
gathering or church funeral with an unembalmed body under certain circumstances of
death that would not be in the best interest of our clients or the community at large.

Exceptional Service and Staff: Our licensed funeral directors and staff are here to
meet your needs. Each family is unique in how they wish to remember their loved ones. This
is why we provide a wide range of funeral service options ranging from traditional burial and
cremation services to contemporary memorial services or green burials.
Facilities:
Our Chapel seats 125 people comfortably. The church style pews and stained glass
windows provide a dignified setting for services without having to leave the comforts
of our funeral home. Of course, you may go to the church of your choice.
The Hospitality Room/Lounge provides coffee and tea and allows our families to
bring food and beverages during visiting hours. This makes it easier for you to greet
your guests without having to leave the premises. We ask that all food be removed 1
hour before closing hours.
Our Keepsake/Gift Shop offers an array of unique items that make the perfect gifts
for family and friends, or as something to keep in remembrance of a loved one.
The Ample parking spaces in our lot avoids on street parking so common in our
town.
Pre-Arrangement Counseling. Many people are beginning to see value in planning
ahead to help avoid the possible mistakes that may occur during a time of grief. Whether it
is to pay in advance to guarantee today’s pricing or just to get their requests in writing, our
arrangement counselors are trained to come up with a plan that is right for each individual.
All arrangement conferences are FREE.
Payment. Our policy requires that all financial arrangements must be completed prior to
setting of services or viewing times. We allow three different options for payment to help
fit your individual need. A more detailed explanation of our payment policy is available.
