NEWSLETTER 09 – 20 March 2015
END OF TERM – We have come to the end of a very trying and emotionally draining term. This will
be the last newsletter for the team since school is closing next Wednesday, 25 March at 10h00.
Learners can wear civvies for R5 and there will be a Razzle (dance) hosted by the Grade 7‟s on that
day. Tickets for the Razzle are R10 and all grades are invited. School will be re-opening on Tuesday,
14 April (a day later than the government schools). The staff will be having a team-building exercise
on Monday, 13 April.
BUILDING NEWS!!! – The board of directors have authorised us to go ahead with the building
as soon as possible and to make use of all resources available. This is largely due to the positive
response shown by parents towards our fundraisers. We intend starting with building during the
Easter Vacation.
TUCK SHOP – The school will be running the tuck shop from next term as it can be a good, steady
source of income for the school. Thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Dawchand for doing such a good job for
the past year and a bit. They really raised the standard of food and service for our learners. There will
be special staff (not teachers) allocated to run the tuck shop so it will not impact on the teachers‟ duties.
The tuck shop will have a set menu for the week (which will be in the newsletters) and learners will be
purchasing tokens in advance for the day or for the whole week. The first week‟s menu will be as
follows: Tuesday 14 April – Chip roll R10; Wednesday “Special” - Burger (Beef/Chicken), chips and
coke R25; Thursday – Toasted Sandwich – R10; Friday – Hot Dog R10. Other items on sale will be
Cold drinks R10; Chips R5; Flavoured Water R10; Biscuits R5; and Sweets (second break only) R5.
PREFECT INDUCTION – On Wednesday we had our prefect induction. All the prefects took their
oaths of office and the executive prefects were announced as Sanjana Omnath and Njabulo Skosana.
Congratulations to our prefects. Check the website or the Facebook page for pictures of this and other
events.
FUNDRAISING – The Big Walk and Fun Fair was a huge fundraising success even though the
support on the day could have been much better. A BIG THANK YOU to all the parents who
supported the function and also to all the parents who sent in donations even though they could not
attend the event. We still need all the forms to be returned to school whether they are empty or not.
Those parents who have not yet returned the forms can still give a donation with the form. We
managed to bank just over R33 000,00 from the Big Walk and Fun Fair.
Cake and Candy Sales Updates – The Grade 4‟s made R3 647; the Grade 5‟s made the new highest
amount of R4 221; and the Grade 6‟s made R2 179; a total of R10 037 so far with the Grade 7‟s having
their sale today.
Donation Box – Some of our LRC girls have been taking around a donation box every morning to
collect money from learners towards the building fund. This realised an amount of R670 this week. A
fantastic effort from our learners.
Mother and Daughter Tea – Tickets are on sale for R100 for a mother and her daughter. This event
will take place on 9th May.
INDIEGOGO –Parents have indicated a reluctance to use their credit cards to make a donation
especially since the campaign is in US$. We have decided therefore to also accept donations into our
school account, but you will need to use the reference „Building Fund‟. BANKING DETAILS –
NEDBANK: East Rand Business: Branch Code: 128842: Acc. No. 1288 052 243. You can view our
campaign on www.indiegogo.com/projects/dalpark-private-school-sa-building-project . Please share
this with people that you know are in a position to help us with donations.
PARENT EVENING – We will be having our parent evenings on Monday and Tuesday. On
Monday there will be a short talk by an Occupational Therapist and then you will have an
opportunity to see your child’s class teacher. Certain parents have received a special invitation
to attend the meeting and you MUST make yourself available. Other parents wanting to see
teachers need to make appointments. No consultation with a teacher should last more than 5
minutes.
