SCORING
JUDGING
DanceBrandz is completely independent and does not hold any
affiliations to any Dance Studio. We have a completely transparent
scoring system and we pride ourselves on our unbiased independent
Judging panels. We believe in investing in only the best international
and national dance experts. Dancebrandz, typically uses a panel of 6
judges who are carefully screened and come from a variety of
backgrounds. You can expect all our judges to be professional, fair,
knowledgeable and experienced.
SCORESHEETS
DanceBrandz uses the DanceWorlds scoresheets. While dance will
always be very subjective, the DanceWorlds scoring has streamlined
the categories to make the score sheet easy to follow. The scoring
system is intended to be easy to choreograph to, and should allow for
more creativity in routines yet still requiring difficulty to get
maximum scores. IASF Dance and The Dance Worlds believes in
ranking through a system of guidelines that create fair play within
broad categories that embrace all interpretations and genres within
the style. Categories include Jazz, Hip Hop & Open Dance and
provide a broad scope to include performance teams from various
regions and countries. The Dance Worlds Scoresheets are developed
with leading judges, coaches and event producers. With meticulous
annual review they develop a scoring system that allows the top
experts in the field accurate and clear adjudication for proper
ranking. Download scoresheets at http://dancebrandz.com/scoring/
FEEDBACK
Immediately after prize giving, scoresheets are available for
collection and include scores and comments from each judge. Teams
will also receive a ranking sheet for everyone that competed in their
category/division.
Please note, teams entered into Dance Prep
will not be considered for International Bids.
QUALIFY FOR THE IASF
WORLDS COMPETITION
If you are entering the Open Jazz, Open Hip Hop or Junior Open
Dance categories you will have the chance to qualify for the IASF
Dance Worlds Competition in Disney World Florida, USA in 2016. If
you would like to be considered for the Dance Worlds then along with
entering into one of the Competitive Dance Divisions, you will also
need to add the Worlds Bid Division to your entry. The highest score
in Open Jazz, Open Hip Hop & Junior Dance from the Competitive
Dance Divisions who also meet the Worlds age and division
requirements will qualify for the Dance Worlds.
CATEGORIES
Jazz
A jazz routine incorporates stylized dance movements and
combinations, formation changes, group work, leaps and turns.
Emphasis is placed on proper technical execution, extension, control,
body placement and team uniformity.
Hip Hop
Routines can incorporate street style movements with an emphasis
on execution, style, creativity, body isolations and control, rhythm,
uniformity and musical interpretation.
Lyrical
Lyrical dance combines elements of ballet and jazz. The dancers will
use gesture, facial expression and controlled movement to convey
emotion and interpret the music.
Contemporary
A fusion of modern, jazz, lyrical and ballet, contemporary routines
stress versatility and improvisation. Contemporary dance does not
necessarily adhere to the strict body lines of other styles of dance.
DIVISIONS
Open Dance
A routine in this category may incorporate any one style or
combination of styles outlined. All styles will be judged against each
other in this category.
To ensure that Dance Studios register and compete in the correct
division we ask that Studio Directors review this document carefully.
AGE OF COMPETITOR
DanceBrandz competitions offer a variety of divisions to suit every
level of dancer and dance troupe from beginners through to
seasoned professionals. At DanceBrandz we value providing
dancers with a competitive environment while maintaining a level
playing field, and catering to all different ages and abilities.
The age of a competitor will be determined based on the date of birth
falling during the “year of competition.” For example, a competitor
who turns 14 any time during 2015 will be eligible to compete in the
Open 14+ age divisions. Likewise, a competitor who turns 15 any time
during 2015 will not be eligible for any Junior Divisions.
DANCE PREP DIVISIONS
Dance Prep is an entry level Competition Division that was created for
the purpose of introducing dancers & families to Competitive Dance.
It is intended to help Studio Directors build their classes, create
revenue, and give dancers with limited financial resources a reason to
stay in dance. Typically a group entered in this division would have
limited weekly practices, a more relaxed environment, lower financial
commitments and fewer costume costs. Note: Competitive
Performance Troupes should not compete in this division. Dancers
entered in the Competitive Dance Divisions are NOT allowed to
crossover to Dance Prep under any circumstances. No exceptions.
COMPETITIVE DANCE DIVISIONS
Competitive Divisions are offered for teams with more experience,
looking for a truly competitive experience. To be eligible for a Worlds
Bid teams must be entered in a Competitive Dance Division.
4 www.dancebrandz.com
AGE OF TEAM
The Division Age of a team is determined by the oldest competitor.
COMBINING AND SPLITTING DIVISIONS
DanceBrandz may combine, add, delete or split divisions at any time
leading up to the event when there are less than two teams registered
in any division.
CROSSOVERS
Crossovers are allowed and we will do our best to accommodate
crossovers but some warm-ups & performance conflicts may be
unavoidable. If there are conflicts, this is a risk the coach or gym will
need to accept. DanceBrandz will not be responsible nor will we
make warmup or scheduling changes to accommodate cross-over
conflicts. However, every effort will be made to provide time for
uniform changes and/or rest between crossover routines, but we
cannot guarantee more than 10mins for this.

DANCEBRANDZ GUIDELINES & POLICIES
Routine Time
Routine time limits are 2:00 minutes for all solo's. Troupe time limit is
3:00 minutes. Your entire routine may be choreographed to music
but it is not a requirement. DanceBrandz will provide a CD player and
a MP3 Player hook up for your music on the main practice floor as well
as the main stage.
Please read through the
following carefully.
• Injury – Practice Area Minor injury – cut, bloody nose, etc The
team may move to an open area in the practice area to work
through their issues, but must perform at their scheduled time.
• Major injury – broken bone, head/neck/back injury, etc The team
will be allotted time to make adjustments to their performance.
The amount of time given will be determined by the event
manager and/or the practice area manager (45 minutes max.)
Routine Beginnings & Endings
What Happens if there is a Scoring Error
Timing and judging of routines will begin with the first organized
movement or the first note of music. Timing will end with the last note
of music or when the ending motion or pose is held.
Floor Size
The main performance surface will be a Marley Dance Floor approx
12.5m x 12.5m. The competition boundary is defined as the
performance surface and any immediate adjacent safety border. For
safety purposes, we require everyone to perform their routine on the
performance surface.
Coaches on Performance Floor
Coaches are allowed to sit on the stage/performance floor for Tiny,
Mini & Special Needs divisions only. Coaches are not allowed to be on
the stage/performance floor for any other divisions. Coaches can sit
at the front of the performance floor (if applicable).
Suitable Viewing for All Audiences
All routines must be suitable for viewing by audiences of all ages.
Vulgar or suggestive music or material is not allowed and will result in
a 2.0 point deduction for each incident. Vulgar or suggestive material
is defined as any movement or choreography implying something
improper or indecent, appearing offensive or sexual in content,
and/or relaying lewd or profane gestures, implications or lyrics.
Vulgarity will be determined at the discretion of the judges and/or
event directors.
Music
Please bring TWO high quality copies of your music to the event. CDs
or MP3 PLAYERS ONLY! One representative of your group/individual
will be responsible for running the music during the competition. This
person must remain at the sound area throughout the entire
performance.
What happens in the Event of a Music Mishap
If the music skips or cuts out during the routine the coach will need to
decide if they want to re-perform their routine again in its entirety. If
the team decides to re-perform their routine, the event manager will
place them in the next available time slot. This time slot is nonnegotiable. The team must perform their routine full out from start to
finish, and will be scored on the 2nd performance only. If a team
decides not to re-perform their routine, the original routine will be
scored in full. Only 2 performances will be allowed per team.
What happens in the Event of an Injury?
• Injury – Performance Area - Music may be stopped by a
coach/team representative/event staff member if an injury
occurs. If the music is stopped due to a major injury, the team will
be asked to exit the floor while a First Aid Person is attending to
the injured participant(s). The team will be allotted time to make
adjustments to their performance and re-perform their routine at
a later time. The time given is up to the discretion of the event
manager. The routine will be re-scored from the point the injury
occurred. All scores received prior to the injury will remain the
same. The routine must be performed in its entirety.
