ready, set, DANCE!
It’s that time of year again, when our dancers get to show us all they have
learned! Dancers need to attend all of their performances to ensure a
successful show. Remember that there is no air conditioning in the WCI
auditorium, so dress accordingly and bring some water!
say cheese
We are lucky to have Anne Bedard photograph our dancers during their class
times again this year. We ask that dancers come to the studio 15min early and
with full makeup & hair, ready to smile. A photo form is included in this
newsletter; please fill it out and bring it with you to picture day. Photos with
siblings, friends, or teachers are encouraged! Payment is due at first photo
session, cash only. Each child needs their own form! (Due to costume
delivery and alterations, some photos may need to be rescheduled. We will
keep you posted!)
We also ask for patience during this process. Sometimes it can be a challenge
to get the little ones ready to pose for best pictures possible, which may result
in some delays.
If photos are missed, please contact the office.
volunteers
Your help is directly responsible for our continued success as a dance studio.
We are run by a volunteer Board of Directors, and we rely on families for
help. This helps to keep the costs low, and to provide a wonderful recital
experience for our dancers. We ask that every family volunteers at some time
during this busy recital season. There are lots of ways to participate. Sign up
sheets are posted on the board outside the office, and we thank you in
advance!

surviving dance recitals
We’re not going to lie—dance recitals are a wonderful, but time-consuming and sometimes stressful, experience.
We’d like to offer you our top tips for getting through this year’s recital without losing your hair!
Label everything
There is a lot of action in the green room, and a lot of similar items. It’s important to make sure that your child’s
name is on all of their property to ensure safe return.
Please note, however, that we are not responsible for any lost items. Any valuables should probably be left at
home!
Follow sign-in and sign-out procedures
In order to ensure the safety of our littlest members, every child must be signed in and out of the green room.
Make sure that the volunteers for your child’s class knows when they are leaving!
Arrive on time (or better yet, a bit early!)
Parking is tight and there is always a bit of chaos in the green room. Leave yourself lots of time to get to WCI and
get settled before the rehearsal or performance begins.
Use picture day as a practice
Picture day is the perfect time to figure out how long it takes to get hair and makeup done. Also, dancers will be in
their costumes for a while during picture day. Make a point of asking them if they are comfortable, and check the
costume for fit. This is the perfect time to get alterations done!
Grab some extra tights (and hair nets, and elastics…)
Don’t be caught off-guard. Make sure you have extras of anything that might break, rip, or get misplaced.
Be a green room volunteer
You might feel a bit overwhelmed at the idea of volunteering in the green room, but the best way to know what’s
going on is to be there.

costume fittings
Costume fittings have begun! Costumes are distributed on picture day, but
please remember not to wash or alter the costume! If you have any issues,
please contact a sewing volunteer, board member, or Angie for help.
We recommend that you keep all costumes and accessories neat and tidy, in the
provided bags. You don’t want to forget anything!
green room etiquette
Only volunteers signed up for green room duty are allowed in during
performance. We will provide entertainment for our dancers, but ask that you
send them with any snacks or drinks. To keep everyone’s costumes stain-free,
we may limit what children are allowed to eat. Think clean: water, carrot sticks,
graham crackers, grapes, pretzels… not fruit punch and strawberries.
And no nuts allowed due to allergies!
final bows & dress rehearsal
We request that parents remain for the toddler dress rehearsal.
All other dress rehearsals are closed to the public, and only volunteers are
admitted to the auditorium. Dancers are permitted to leave after their number is
completed and the instructor has dismissed them—but everyone is welcome to
be in the final bow at the end of the performances.
Victoria Day parade
We will be participating in the annual Victoria Day Parade again this year!
To join us in the parade, please sign up on the sheets at the studio starting April
30th. Children 6 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
We ask those participating in the parade to wear purple or WCDS spirit wear,
and bring lots of WCDS Spirit! Dancers and chaperones will meet on Monday,
May 18 at 9AM on the track at the fairgrounds. Pick up for the dancers on the
float will be at Southside Park near the gazebo, at the end of the parade. Board
members and Instructors will have access to cell numbers, so please make sure
we have your current information.
spring fundraiser
Are you feeling lucky?
WCDS will be running a raffle this spring. Great prize opportunities coming your
way—more information to follow!
our younger
dancers
Please remember that our younger
dancers (ages 4-5) do not participate
in the Friday night show. Check the
schedule for the exact performances
your dancer is a part of!
hair & makeup
This newsletter has all the information
you need for hair and makeup. Please
read it over carefully, and make sure
you understand what is expected—
especially if you have children in
multiple performances!
We ask that everyone is in full
costume (including hair & makeup) for
pictures, recitals, and performances.
It is always your choice if your dancer
wears makeup.
summer dance
camps
Registration for summer dance camp
continues. If you have not received a
brochure stop by the office or visit
www.dancewoodstock.com. Space is
limited and classes are filling up
quickly! Dance instructors cannot
accept registrations so please call or
come to the office Mondays-Fridays
from 9AM-12PM, or Tuesday evenings
from 6PM-8PM.
donations
when in doubt… just ask!
If you’ve read the whole newsletter and you still have questions, don’t
worry! Info sessions are scheduled Wednesday, June 3 and Thursday,
June 4 at 6PM.
If you still aren’t sure, board members and instructors are always
available. You can also call Angie or email the studio:
519 421 0950 or [email protected].
We are looking for donations of the
following items for dance camp:
scraps of fabric, paper towel rolls,
baby food jars, margarine containers
and coffee filters as well as any other
craft items you wish to donate. There
is a box in the reception area at the
studio for donated items.
