Visit to Abdur Rahim's Khan i Khana Tomb The students of classes 5-8 of The Parampara- Heritage Club visited Abdur Rahim's Khan i Khana tomb on the occasion of World Heritage Day on 18th of April 2015. The tomb, made in 1590 by Abdur Rahim for his wife Mahabano, was the first ever to be built for a woman and is a priceless part of our heritage. A number of activities were organised by the Aga Khan Trust for Culture to promote consciousness among students about conservation of our rich heritage and monuments. The students were given valued information about Abdur Rahim- a poet and one of the nine gems of Akbar’s court. Students were familiarized with his life, his political and army career and his alliance with his contemporary poet Tulsidas. The students got to know about the anecdotes behind his dohas. Students were also acquainted with the knowledge of age old architecture and how such tombs survived for hundreds of years. It was thrilling to see the conservation work happening real time. Students also had hands on experience of Calligraphy through the workshop conducted. Role play on Rahim's life and a quiz on the information gathered was an added experience. The students also participated in painting and collage making activity and presented it with a thought to conserve our heritage.
